Junior High and Transistion to Middle School
editThe transition from Junior High to Middle School took place in the fall 1981, not 1980 as the article previously stated. Also, the school housed ninth grade up until that time as well. Basically, prior to 1981 there were six elementary schools(K-6)
- New Carlisle Elementary which was in the old, 1921 New Carlisle High School Building
- Westlake
- Park Layne
- McAdams
- Donnelsville
- Medway
Two junior high schools (7-9)
- New Carlisle Junior High at the north end of Kennison Street
- Olive Brach Junior High
And one High School (10-12), Tecumseh
The six elementary schools became cumbersome and excessive to the district as the World War II Baby boom was long over. So two schools, McAdams and New Carlisle, were closed. Sixth Grade was moved from the elementary buildings to the jr. high buildings. Ninth grade was moved to the high school creating a four year high school program, and with sixth through eighth grades at the junior high buildings, they were renamed middle schools.
My source for all this is my memory as I was there at the time. I'm sure there's an old newspaper article from the area that could be found, but I no longer live there. Eric Cable | Talk 18:54, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- Correct. I was in the first class of sixth graders for the 1981–1982 school year. When I wrote 1980, my memory was playing tricks on me. —mjb (talk) 20:46, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
