Combining Articles edit
There seems (understandably) to be a high degree of crossover material between the Oldenburg and Ostfriesen/Alt-Oldenburger articles. Would it make more sense to look at combining the two? --Timetrial (talk) 02:34, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Not at this time, I don't think. one is a historical antecedent to the other, but they are distinct enough to stay separate. Ostfriesen was actually merged from East Friesian and some other articles. However, you could drop the lead editor, User:Countercanter, a note on her talk page and ask her opinion, she did the bulk of the work on these. Montanabw(talk) 05:17, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Corrected the birth year of Johann XVI to 1540 [1]

Name of the Breed edit

- It is not incorrect to say "Oldenburger" though that represents the German equivalent of -ese or -an (American, Japanese) so it is a harder trick for our unpracticed mouths to perform. The registry is called "Verband der Zuechter des Oldenburger Pferdes" and the American branch of this is called "The Oldenburg Horse Breeders' Society." I consider use of the term "Oldenburger" akin to Giada De Laurentiis's choice to pronounce the names of foods as Italianishly as possible. It is more to pay homage to the culture that produced the horse (or dish, as the case may be) than a matter of correctness. Countercanter (talk) 04:35, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hi grumpy! Love your user name. CC is correct, we have similar things with Holstein/Holsteiner also. On the horse breed articles in general, our tendency is to use the version that English-language breed registries use, and when there is a difference between registries, to go with whichever set is also in line with the wikipedia standards for if an article uses USA English or UK English. So basically, go with whatever CC says, she knows what she is talking about -- at least on the warmblood articles!
