Excellent work

edit

This is now a fine-looking article, thanks to the creativity of the recent editors. Well done. Wilson44691 (talk) 21:47, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Stratigraphy

edit

I've made a start on trying to provide greater detail about the major ORS depositional basins and the suites of rocks that occur within them. I invite other editors to discuss how the article as a whole may better be structured.Geopersona (talk) 06:30, 26 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

This is the first WIKI edit I have attempted, so... You give an example of ORS as 'Sweetheart Abbey'(with Photo). I have consulted BGS (I am not a geologist) and they opine that it is New Red Sandstone, mined in the Dumfries Basin. I believe them! 92.235.217.116 (talk) 20:26, 4 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia - you might think about signing up as a registered user. Now as regards the Abbey - it would certainly make sense for it to be constructed of New Red Sandstone as its stands on or near a major outcrop of Permian rocks. The citations accompanying the text and photo don't give any hint as to the building material- if you can find, perhaps even within a BGS publication, a written reference to its construction that would be valuable and maybe it then gets moved on! I was already looking when you replied, this link gives a Permian age for the building material. Mikenorton (talk) 21:37, 4 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I swapped Sweetheart Abbey for St. Magnus Cathedral, which is definitely ORS. Mikenorton (talk) 22:04, 4 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Appearance of Page

edit
And further refinements made but now a technical Wiki page issue - in terms of the appearance of the article - how do we remove the blank space below 'Scotland' and indeed the rather bigger space at the head of the article? Geopersona (talk) 06:25, 5 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Map?

edit

Can we have a map showing where these ORS are?

North America

edit

"in the west along the northeastern seaboard of North America" -- how about a little more discussion of this? 216.255.171.122 (talk) 13:41, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you've referenced material to hand - you could add it! thanks Geopersona (talk) 19:29, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
