Removing politicsoffthegrid.com edit

Removing politicsoffthegrid.com entry, which read:

as it seems to be not appropriate for wikipedia (e.g. I find no mainstream news articles about it), and it's already disambiguated by its full title. Entries like "Warren Miller's Off the Grid" and "Off the Grid with Les Stroud" are also disambiguated by their full title, but there are several mainstream news articles on both that refer to them as simply "Off the Grid." -Agyle 03:31, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Electronic communications as "the grid" edit

I think the phrase "off the grid" is more commonly associated with going into hiding than with living without dependence on public utilities; "the grid" in this case being various electronic infrastructures that could facilitate determination of one's location. For example, a person could be found through evidence left by telephone calls, use of a credit card, or simply standing in view of a surveillance camera; and in going "off the grid" would discontinue such activities to avoid discovery.

Is there an existing Wikipedia article to which this one could link, for this sense of the phrase? B7T (talk) 17:13, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

We have many articles which relate tangentially to this idea. i have added some of them, though thats not strictly what a disambig page is used for. i also linked to wiktionary, which has a definition inclusive of this idea.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 04:21, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Government surveillance and corporate data acquisition as "the grid" edit

This is the only sense in which I've ever heard the term used. "I don't like the thought of everything I do being recorded in a government surveillance database." "Have you considered getting off the grid?" I see this term online with some frequency:

This is the first I've ever heard of "off the grid" having anything to do with anything other than privacy.
