As per the recent situation with Gold Coast Galaxy FC being replaced with Gold Coast A-League franchise, should this topic follow suit and replace this article with a page such as North Queensland A-League franchise, especially with Thunder name seemingly being dropped? Gialloneri (talk) 22:38, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think we can safely move this one to North Queensland FC - I found a source [1] stating that it is the same club - "NQ FC, which rose from the ashes of the Northern Thunder, won't be relying solely on local Townsville spirit to get them over the line this month." Of course the history about the 2008-09 season should remain a part of the new article, as it has for the Gold Coast one. I personally believe "North Queensland A-League franchise" would be better:
  • Consistency - echoes the GC page
  • Allows the possibility of another name change for NQFC (however unlikely)
  • Allows for another Townsville bid with a different name becoming the frontrunner.
I also agree with you that the Thunder name/bid history should remain part of the article as much as Galaxy is for the GC page.
Also - information on the other bids. I'd rather see the page be about the situation of the A-League expanding to Townsville, rather than one particular bid. While we're at it, I think it's important to also include the 2007/08 bid (Tropical Football Australia) that tried for the 8th license before it was granted to Wellington (something I thank my lucky stars for every day! ;) haha) Gialloneri (talk) 05:28, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think we'd be better off moving this to North Queensland A-League franchise until we hear something official from the FFA. Bongomanrae (talk) 06:12, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

POV edit

A good read but this paragraph is a bit OTT and not really factual or encyclopaedic. "Despite the oppressive conditions placed on the club, by the FFA, North Queensland Fury started the 2010/2011 season in good form with many of their new players performing above expectations. Although they didn't always win the team played with an energy, passion and commitment that caught the imagination of fans across the league and new manager Franz Straka proved to be a charismatic figurehead for the club's new dawn."

Sounds more like the end of season newsletter. Maybe it could be toned down a bit? Apart from that well done to everyone who contributed. Tigerman2005 (talk) 11:28, 5 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Colours edit

I have to say I was very surprised by the green colour of NQF. I had assumed they would have done the same as Gold Coast United did with the Titans in using the same colours as the North Queensland Cowboys to try to attract fans of that club to soccer as well. Additionally does anyone have a clue when the Roar are planning to re-name themselves given there are 3 Queensland teams now. If not, when are they going to stop using that awful Orange colour - Queensland is meant to be Maroon and Yellow.

Squad for the 2009–10 season edit

Is there a citation for the squad numbers given for the players in this section? I ask due to the fabricated numbers that are being given to Daniel McBreen (no.22 and no.5 apparently) - which I'm quite sure of them being considering this player hasn't even sigend yet. edit

I believe the crest on the article is actually not the final crest which is now plastered over all the NQ Fury merchandise. Does anyone have a copy of the actual logo? - RedsUnited (talk) 10:30, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Found it. - RedsUnited (talk) 10:40, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Door Ajar edit

How come there is nothing in this article about the door being left ajar for a possible future return if the right requirements are met. Just in the last few minutes I did a google search and found numerous articles on the net with statements by FFA officials including the CEO of FFA that could be used as refs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.148.43.180 (talk) 07:24, 14 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

NPOV edit

Someone needs to completely rewrite the second half of the history complete with referencing.

  • "Losses were estimated as high as $50,000 per week with the Australian newspaper reporting an expected first year loss of $4 to 5 million." unrefed
  • "the Fury were expecting a crowd average of 8,000 as opposed to an actual average of 6,723" unrefed
  • "the FFA took the unprecedented step of cancelling all existing contracts" why? why was it unprecedented?
  • "and had fans wondering whether the FFA were really serious about saving the club after all" unrefed, not the right tone
  • "the FFA also took another unprecedented step by forcing the club to play at only 85% of the salary cap putting NQFC at a disadvantage to the rest of the competition." NPOV, it was for a reason, so explain why.
  • "Unfortunately the FFA's short sightedness and lack of long term commitment to the club " more NPOV needed
  • "Many fans of North Queensland Fury resent the FFA because they feel that North Queensland Fury and its supporters are being used as a pawn in Australia's bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup" as above

It continues as above. JRA_WestyQld2 Talk 13:34, 2 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
