Article name edit

Now that the article has been discussed at AfD, we really should address what most editors agreed was an issue with the article title. The current title (in terms of its exact syntax) is not supported by reliable sources. Titles suggested during the discussion included Richard Nixon's Discrimination against Jewish Bureau of Labor Statistics Staff and Nixon's Jew count. I'm partial to the second of those suggestions, but I think we should consider other available options too. Stlwart111 03:25, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I like Nixon's Jew Count, or maybe Nixon's Jew-counting Memo because that's how it's described in sources. I'm open to any other suggestions however. BuySomeApples (talk) 04:20, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Whatever the change, the article's lede probably needs to be altered as, unless I'm mistaken, there doesn't seem to be consensus in the sources about the name given to this. I am partial to Nixon's Counting of Jews at the Bureau of Labor Statistics - which is kind of expanding out what the Miller Center called it.. Completely a personal preference though. I'd support that, with one minor alteration: Nixon's counting of Jews at the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It's specific enough that it can't be conflated with other events and is supported by reliable sources. Stlwart111 07:46, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • I think I would prefer Nixon Administration Discrimination against Jewish Bureau of Labor Statistics Staff, since the article seems to indicate others in the administration, not just Nixon, were involved. Alternately, since it looks like there were multiple examples of anti-Semitism during the Nixon administration([1]), I think widening the article scope to Anti-Semitism in the Nixon Administration might be another viable alternative so that those could be encompassed as well. I also lean towards this opinion but the recent AfD put this to bed. There is definite consensus that this should be a standalone article. Vladimir.copic (talk) 04:43, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I never said it shouldn't be. I said it might be good if the article had a wider scope. It would, of course, still remain a standalone article if that were to be done. Seraphimblade Talk to me 04:47, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I guess my concern is that the article might then become a coat-rack for other allegations of antisemitism that wouldn't otherwise ever be considered notable in their own right. Or a vehicle for original research that tries to synthesise non-notable parts into a notable whole. Stlwart111 07:46, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Let's be honest, Nixon's Jew Count makes Wikipedia look rediciulous. I would argue that when someone says Jew Count it would be seemingly close to Adof Hiltler's Jew Count which refers to body count. It is libel per quod. It also is simply not an accurate representation. I think it should be changed fast. I like "Nixon Administration Civil RightsViolations Jewish Executive Branch Employees." There are plenty of examples of articles that make Wikipedia look ridiculous. Pride in the project isn't the aim here; we're trying to find a title that reflects what reliable sources say about this event. Sorry, but "Nixon Administration Civil RightsViolations Jewish Executive Branch Employees." doesn't make much sense, and it certainly isn't what reliable sources have called this event, whether we like it or not. • Can I suggest Nixon's Anti-Semitic Purge of the Bureau of Labor Statistics? (Alternatively I'd be okay with Nixon's Counting of Jews at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, because the RSes definitely focus on the count part of the story.) Loki (talk) 20:43, 9 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, not much of a "purge" though. They counted those with Jewish-sounding names and then (allegedly) moved two of them on. At least one source suggests it was a failure because they ended up promoting some of those on the list to move them out of their positions. Stlwart111 00:51, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • I suggest Nixon's Count of Jews. What grates about "Jew Count" is the way that "Jew" (as opposed to "Jewish") sounds (unintentionally) like a slur. This wording is also relatively succinct. (I came here from the RfC notice.) --Tryptofish (talk) 21:50, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'd support "Nixon's Count of Jews". Loki (talk) 08:25, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
