Wrong Richard Willoughby

The article says: "Sometime after 1352 he married Lucy, widow of Sir Thomas Huscarle and daughter and heiress of Sir Richard III Willoughby and his first wife Isabel Mortain." citing "A History of the County of Surrey: Volume 4, London, pp. 168–178"

But that source, and many others, clearly say that Nicholas's wife Lucy (widow of Sir Thomas Huscarle) was the daughter of "Richard de Wylughby and Elizabeth his wife". (NOT Isabel Mortain).

Furthermore, Lucy's father, Sir Richard Willoughby of Beddington is NOT "Richard Willoughby III" of Wollaton.

For one thing, Richard Willougby of Wollaton had many children that survived him. But there are several sources that say that Lucy was the "only child" of Richard Willoughby of Beddington. Examples include “A Topographical History of Surrey”, by E.W. Brayley, and https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_History_and_Antiquities_of_the_Count/Yms-AQAAIAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=huscarl "The History and Antiquities of the County of Surrey" by Re Owen Manning and William Bray Vol II 1804 pg 522.

Secondly, Richard Willoughby of Wollaton DID have a wife named Elizabeth Valletort, but he didn't marry her until 1343, the year Lucy married her first husband, Sir Thomas Huscarle.

I am proposing to change the text to ""Sometime after 1352 he married Lucy, widow of Sir Thomas Huscarle and daughter and heiress of Sir Richard Willoughby of Beddington and his wife Elizabeth." Jpg1954 (talk) 19:35, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
