Shute in We Mixed Our Drinks says it was put on in 1937, but the verifiable evidence is against that. There is a report that it was considered for November 1937. But the January 1938 date comes with a statement that it was a "new comedy". At the end of 1937 the Wentworth Days were in Egypt, so perhaps it was postponed.
