Fictional Detective

There was also a fictional detective called Nelson Lee who appeared in British story-papers in the early 20th century. Initially he was similar to Sexton Blake (had a boy assistant and worked from rooms in London, solving 'action packed' cases). Later he appeared in his own story-paper, The Nelson Lee Library (retitled "The Nelson Lee" in 1930) which was aroundabout A5 sized. In this paper he became a teacher at a boarding school at which his boy assistant Nipper was enrolled. The stories in this paper continued on from where the previous one left off not unlike American comics (Superman etc), whereas other story papers like Union Jack (with Sexton Blake in it) had more or less 'self contained' stories, or else had serialised stories which had thier actual chapters spread out over several issues (The Boys' Friend). I presume the character vanished in around 1940 when paper rationing began. 86.142.170.120 (talk) 19:45, 11 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
