Etymology
editThe name clearly comes from the Sanskrit nirāja, but I'm not completely certain which of the several meanings is the one here. Apart from 'lotus', nīra-ja can also mean 'pearl' or 'otter'. And there's also nī-raja 'free from passion'. Uanfala (talk) 22:33, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
