The etymology of Nayarambalam is not directly associated Nair Community. There may have two prominent variants of origins
1. There were a temple of Sun existed in this place. The Sun has a synonym as ഞായര് (Njayar) in Malayalam. The place was originally known as ഞായറമ്പലം (Njayarambalam) and finally transformed into Nayarambalam
2. There were a temple of Serpent existed in this place. The Serpent has a synonym as നാകര് (Naakar) in Malayalam. The place was originally known as നാകറമ്പലം (Njayarambalam) and finally transformed into Nayarambalam
