Reassessment edit

I had added the importance to high as it contributed a lot to our nation as we would have free books to read and references. If you dispute with my assessment, please leave a note at my talk page-User:quek 157. thanks--Quek157 11:25, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Clarifications / Additions edit

Full Disclosure: I am an employee of NLB. As there is a potential conflict of interest for me to edit this article, I will not edit this article directly but will point out the following facts only in the interest of improving the quality of the article.

Role of NLB

NLB actually oversees the National Library Singapore (which performs the national library function of a country) and the public libraries of Singapore.

Perhaps it would be better to use this article to describe the National Library Board as a statutory board first followed by separate sections on National Library, Singapore and the Public Libraries, Singaporethat it oversees.

History

The formation of NLB as a statutory board is a result of the National Library Board Act,1995 (http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/)

Membership

Borrowing privileges only extend only to the lending section of the libraries. The membership could also moved to be part of the proposed "Public Libraries, Singapore" section suggested earlier. ("Library Guide", www.nlb.gov.sg)

Actually, I am more than happy to help with the above but I am concerned with possible COI. If anyone will offer any advice on my eligibility to edit this article as per my above suggestions, please let me know.
