Merging Nadiya into Nadiia

Request received to merge articles: Nadiya into Nadiia; dated: February 2022.

Proposer's Rationale: Nadiya and Nadiia are basically one and the same Ukrainian name Надія with Nadiya being the outdated transliteration (current official rules for name transliteration can be found here). The proposal is to move all links describing Ukrainian nationals to the page Nadiia and state that Nadiya is an outdated transliteration of the name. However the page Nadiya should be kept for non-Ukrainian nationals who are named exactly this way e.g. Nadiya Hussain.

If you're going to merge, Nadiia should be merged to Nadiya. There are a lot more Nadiyas than Nadiias (3). Clarityfiend (talk) 17:27, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Oppose proposal as stated; the current structure works well for readers, and Nadiya is the more common spelling in English, regardless of official transliteration guidelines. Klbrain (talk) 23:21, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
