Talk:NZR JA class

I note that this article essentially deals with two distinct classes of locomotives - the Hillside JA Class of 1946, and the later North British JA CLass of 1951. While both are similar J type locomotives, the origins of both types are quite different, and both were quite different mechanically and in appearance. It is my suggestion, that the North British JA Class of 1951 be separated out of this article and have a new article of it's own. Gosteamnz (talk) 00:15, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I just did some fairly extensive editing of this article. Please keep in mind that this is an encyclopaedia, thus it follows the lead of reliable sources. As published works on NZR typically group the JA together as a unified class, we follow their lead, and I think the article's current division into the two separate batches is the appropriate way to deal with the class. The section about different classifications, however, was completely speculative and unsourced, so I removed it. WP:OR might make for worthwhile reading in this case, to keep the article encyclopaedic without depriving it of useful information. - Axver (talk) 03:06, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Please provide references to credible and authoritative works which group the two separate classes of JA together. Most of the highly regarded and notable works on NZR locomotives separate the two classes. I would still like to propose that a separate page for the JA Class of 1951 be separated out in to a distinct page of its own. Furthermore the classifications section was not completely speculative, but agreed it was added without the appropriate reference(s). I intend to re-ad it in the near future citing the appropriate references. Gosteamnz (talk) 03:03, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merger Proposal: Ja1250 "Diana" page edit

I have begun the process of merging the Ja1250 "Diana" page in to the current NZR JA article, due to an obection for a simple delete of that article. The locomotive which is the subject of the page in question (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ja1250_%22Diana%22) does not meet the NZR WikiProject standards for notability, and as such this process has been begun to see the NZR WikiProject standards enforced. It should be noted that a lot of the relevant content on the Ja1250 page already exists on the NZR JA class page, and should a merger take place I don't see many changes occuring to the current NZR JA class article. I will give a time limit of 1 week from the posting of this comment for discussion, before proceeding with the merge. Gosteamnz (talk) 01:25, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm fine with this. --Lholden (talk) 04:17, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
As the time limit has elapsed with no objections, I have proceeded with the merger as stated. Gosteamnz (talk) 04:35, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
