"Brony" phenomenon?

Should we mention in popular culture the growing surge in popularity in My Little Pony amongst 10-25 year old males? There have been many references made to them, including in an official video (equestria girls).2.123.49.190 (talk) 02:59, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism

I reverted the page back a few edits to remove vandalism (claiming my little pony is marketed to forty year old man and that Hasbro is a weapons manufacturer, etc...). I'm only a casual wikipedian, so I don't know if I've followed proper procedures, a thousand apologies if I havent. The vandalism was funny, good job vandals, I'm not uptight about it all, but feel free to take it over to encyclopedia dramatica or something. I'm actually interested in MLP because my daughter loves them. kthxbye. ReverendJohn (talk) 00:57, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

TV Series

There really should be an article for the TV series, which is only mentioned in passing here. Preferably not a POV ridden mockery like the old one.--Tenka Muteki 01:45, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

- It's now been created, by the same author as the POV ridden mockery no less. Huzzah! -- 01:23, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

-- I'm watching an early My Little Pony cartoon right now with my kids, 3 and 6, and I'm a bit surprised by how dark it is, if I had known it was like this when I was a little kid I might have watched it. There is some menacing demonic figure stroking what appears to be a beating heart in a sack while he admonishes some big scary demon and threatens a baby dragon. It's cool, but I'm pretty sure there are going to be some nightmares tonight.

The series that goes with the G3 set of ponies doesn't seem to be mentioned at all. I know because it has a different theme song than the G1 TV series, the My Little Pony Tales, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. In fact, I think that series is a 2009 series rather than the HUb's 2010 series. 66.59.120.178 (talk) 04:40, 26 November 2010 (UTC) invinible

Just a little editing

I'm not all that familiar with MLP myself, so I can't do any factchecking, but I cleaned up a little NPOV and second person and other cosmetic issues. But that "Baby Pony" section sounds like it should be under the laternate lines section. I'm not going to move it though because I don't really know anything about what was manufactured when. :)

I'd also consider maybe the references to year numbers, like "year 5" in the section I edited, and I think it says year 8 and year 9 farther down, be clarified somewhere. What do those year numbers mean, exactly? Errick 19:02, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

I really don't have a clue why, but hardcore pony fans use 'Year 1' for 1982-3, 'Year 2' for 1983-4 and so on. I've replaced those references for sake of clarity. Baby Ponies were part of the regular line, just, y'know, smaller.

I am a collector of these toys and I want to help improve this site. I edited to simplify a few things and have changed the tone a little. I will be doing some research so I can site pertanent references soon. I removed info about specific ponies and market pricing as it did not belong here. I have also removed the comment about Hasbro confirming the G1 license until I can find the article to site this claim. --Childwize 02:17, 25 Feb 2007 (UTC)

Needs pictures!

The My Little Pony style is very visually distinct. This article has no pictures of MLP toys! The screenshot from the animated series is nice, but really belongs in that article, not this one. Surely somebody has one or two pictures, of toys from the old style and the new, with undisputed copyright status? --Darksasami 03:39, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Exactly. Photos of, um, MLP? Where are they? Benefac (talk) 22:06, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Clean up

I just added the clean up tag to the article. There's a lot of POV statements in there, with non-enyclopedic sentences that sound more like reviews. I'll clean up a little later, right now I'm just putting in a head's up. Annie D 08:40, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

I deleted the final paragraph of the introductory section. It basically lamented the decline of popularity of the series/toys among young girls in the face of electronic games. However, it was hardly encyclopedic and simply reflected the opinion of the author (which is a fine opinion, but is not relevant to the Wikipedia format). Moreover, I doubt anyone could find an actual correlation between the decline of interest in My Little Ponies and the increased availability of electronic toys - this is speculation, even if ultimately true. I am sure that the rest of the entry has similar instances of substandard content, but I personally do not feel like editing it. Please if anyone has a problem with my edit then make an argument against it, but remember to lead with your brain and not your heart. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.83.146.176 (talk) 22:41, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

I do not know much about edit stuff on here, but I do not see one mention of the 1st My Little Pony, Apple Jack. My son is one of those "Broonies" which is beyond something I understand, but a couple years ago he was determined Rainbow Dash was the 1st Pony. It was Apple Jack, she came with an apple shaped stable and comb. (I had it as a kid.) I do not remember if she came with anything else. I could have sworn those Ponys were scented too. I would agree this article seems to have more if a collectors perspective. Equestria girls were not mentioned to my notice. Defiantly needs to post picture of Pony styles and changes. I suggest a picture of Apple Jack and her stable and the Ponys that came with the Pony castle. (I didn't have that) I remember a pony castle or house that came after Apple Jacks stable. These would have been the original Ponys to my knowledge. I am 37 years old and remember the My Little Pony, Carebears, and Mermaids very popular toys. Toys did not spew out ever my seconds like they seem to now. There needs to be more of a mention of the Broonie following. Boys ages 9 or 10, to young men in their mid 20s actually show up to the Equestria Girl movies. (I was surprised to see 3 men in their 20s at one of the movies.) I myself do not understand this Broonie following. It may be helpful to get an older broonie to explain this following. Also they should mention the inappropriate sites coming out with inappropriate pony stuff on them. I have not seen these sites myself, but as a parent I think it is important to mention these sites to help a parent to be fair warned about these inappropriate sites so they can make sure that their children avoid them. ----

To Wikipedia staff regarding collectors section and links

Dear Wikipedia Staff, I am writing to help clear up some confusion and errors in flagging in your article about My Little Pony. A July 25th edit removed and flagged a link to MLPTP.net. This website is not spam, nor is it inappropriate. I inadvertently overrode the link instead of adding the intended link to MLParena.com. If you visit the flagged website or search for it in Google, you will see that it is indeed relevant to the content of the article. I have been contacted about this by the original author of this section and tried putting the link and content back in, but as it has already been flagged, the edits do not hold.

Please unflag this website and allow the Collectors Revised section to stand. Thank you. Tracy

Cleanup needed

Ah, I can see how this attracted a cleanup tag -- while this is pretty well structured for a toy-related article, and not overloaded with meaningless detail (a common problem with collector topics), there's an awful lot of POV material, an evident bias towards the earlier incarnations of MLP, and an almost total lack of references. I can't do much about the third (don't have the relevant expertise and this isn't a topic that lends itself to library research), but I'll try and copy edit to deal with the first two. Just noting my intentions here so people don't freak out.

Also, the picture at the top really should go; as the bulk of the article is about the toys, the most appropriate illustration would be a picture of them, and that would also avoid copyright problems which are pretty frequent when screen grabs are involved. Gusworld (talk) 02:59, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

OK, I've had a first pass at it -- still lots to do though. I deleted the whole restoration section, as that's not relevant detail for an encyclopedia article. The popular culture section also needs serious trimming, if not outright removal -- only prominent and sustained references should be here, not any fleeting MLP reference. (Converting this from a list to text would also discourage people from adding random material.)
One factual problem someone else can hopefully address: The My Pretty Pony line gets mentioned in the lead, and then never recurs again. The lead is supposed to summarise the main content of the article, so this isn't appropriate -- either more detail on this predecessor should be added or this note should be moved into the article body. (I've also added a sentence regarding the subsequent generations, but the lead definitely needs work.) Gusworld (talk) 03:20, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh, and I also removed the list of ponies that have been faked, primarily as this is not encyclopedic and also as it's unlikely to stay accurate for any meaningful period of time. Gusworld (talk) 03:22, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

This article is mostly written from collector's POV. It pays a little or no attention to significance of MLP as a toy. Hey, it is a toy! For kids! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.222.87.39 (talk) 12:23, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Is this article about the toy or the collectors?

This article reads like it was written by a collector, and not someone who views My Little Pony as children'stoys...most of the information is geared towards people that hoard nostalgic toys; do we really believe that a certain group of these toys is 'generally referred to as G3' by little girls (the main consumer)? Most of the article has no references to back up anything it says, and there are blatantly biased statements ('most people who grew up watching the 1986 show don't like the new one'). And they're marketed to 'young women' as well as children? Really? Or is that thrown in to make the author feel less silly for collecting them in her 40s?

There's a lot of good info here, but the fact is that the main consumers of these products are not adults, and the article should not have the tone of a Star Trek convention.

Defining eras

Now someone claims MLP Tales was G1.5. OK, how to define each generation and its sub-eras without making original research? JSH-alive talkcontmail 15:11, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

It's an original research issue?? This does come up every once in a while defining the generations of videos games too. Did Hasbro actually call the 2009 thing G3.5? MLP Tales is the only generation not defined by a number in this article, does that make it G1 despite eight years between the shows? Doesn't that confuse people?--SexyKick 03:46, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Sadly yes. Bronines and fans may think Tales is G2 when THERE'S already a G2.--Blackgaia02 (Talk if you're Worthy) (talk) 12:39, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
So what do you think? Should we add a clarification calling it G1.5?--SexyKick 19:33, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Semiprotected Question

I am not certain why I cannot edit a semiprotected page? I have been a logged-in Wikipedia editor for a long time, though I'm rarely active.

In any case, the only occurrence of "it's" in the article should be "its". (Apparently I lack the authority to remove the offending punctuation.) TricksterWolf (talk) 16:54, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Wolf, you do not lack the authority. The only authority is an authority, which must be sourced, and sources are the only authority. To say otherwise or to bring me back to the original point is circular. We here do not like following our tails, hence wiki. If anyone tells you otherwise, or even suggests or entertains a doubt, they are the cancer that we always must fight to free information, and once information is free we need only keep our eyes open to untruth, so that we do not begin telling lies through mistake. No lies, no mistakes. Truth will out; Jimmy knows this, you know this. Kill the cancer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Monthstay3242 (talkcontribs) 04:35, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Hasbro what have you done in the So Soft Newborn Merchandise?!!

Rainbow Dash: Excuse me Hasbro, but the So Soft Newborns don't look like babies from the show, they look like badly designed baby ponies. Evidence:

Rainbow Dash: And that Spike looks so wrong. He didn't even wear diapers when he was born as Twilight hatched him when she was a filly.

Rainbow Dash: Not sure if Hasbro has never watched Baby Cakes (the episode), or just made the designs for baby ponies quite bad. Yep, it's very true. 180.75.191.176 (talk) 05:14, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Seriously bronies??

Bronies hate the previous generations. The previous generations are only for little girls AND NOT EVERYONE. However, the fourth one is just made for all ages except that Faust's concepts will be abused because of previous generation ponies. G4 Surprise and G4 Moon Dancer would be also abused as well.

  • I also found out that bronies think Once Upon a My Little Pony Time: Newborn Cuties it's a horror movie.

I think the first episode of Newborn Cuties was good, but it needs animation improvement. The second one, not so good. Reasons:

  • The second episode of Newborn Cuties really needs animation improvement.
  • Lack of moving mouths.
  • Lack of blinking eyes.
  • Not listing REAL character voices in the credits and leading to confusion.

That's it. I'm outta here. --180.75.225.153 (talk) 10:30, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
