many thanks to everyone for the editings only 2 points: 1. Sicily became majoritarian latin speaking and RC Catholic between 1240 and 1300, possibly later then 1300, when Frederick became the King the RCs were the dominant group but possibly not yet the majority, may be "dominant" could be more correct 2. Louis IX is frequently titled "Re Santo", particularly in the catholic sources, that the reasom I used "Holy King", may be "King and Saint" would be a better solution in english regards Cunibertus (talk) 14:31, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

I modified the reference to the Kingdom of Naples as it didn't exist formally before the Angevins - they created it long after the Sicilian Vespers when they understood they cannot get back SicilyCunibertus (talk) 15:10, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

David Abulafia consistently refers to the "regno" meaning the Kingdom of Sicily in his Frederick II; however, constant reference to a "Kingdom of Sicily" in this article will confuse readers even more than editors. Can it be settled with a footnote at the first occurrence, and with the term regno ("kingdom")?--Wetman (talk) 00:43, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Girofalco

Was this today's Girifalco in Calabria, as the article says? Given the proximity to the coast, and indeed to Sicily, it seems a strange place for Frederick II to have sent the Muslims. Julie Anne Taylor, in Muslims in Medieval Italy, p. 42-3, locates a Girifalco in Capitanata. She cites this record from the 1240s, as well as an official letter from 1239, which in English reads in part, roughly: "Regarding the Saracens of Lucera and Girifalco who go to Calabria while conducting business, and then try to cross over to Sicily, but you do not permit them to cross to Sicily: what you are doing pleases us, and we wish that you altogether prevent this and take care lest any of the Saracens cross into Sicily. We wish also and command you that throughout the parts of Calabria to which the Saracens happen to come with their business, you take care that none of them remain in these parts or build dwellings for staying." Is Calabria used here in a sense that doesn't include the Isthmus of Catanzaro, where Girifalco stands? 24.148.8.227 (talk) 02:28, 31 January 2012 (UTC) John
