Murphy's time slot has been replaced

edit

Please quit covering up this relevant fact which concerns the show's airtime.68.47.64.121 (talk) 14:30, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

No one's covering up anything, the timeslot doesn't belong specifically to Murphy Brown. The revival was always planned to be 13 episodes, which would allow CBS to replace it with one of several comedies they have on their bench for midseason. The network still has Fam, Man With a Plan and Life in Pieces to air. Esuka323 (talk) 14:34, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Don't give me nonsense. By erasing it, you are in fact covering it up. The timeslot is also what Murphy has aired on all season — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.47.64.121 (talk) 16:13, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
You've been reverted by multiple editors because you were adding poorly worded original research. Your latest edits for example where you claim the show won't get a Season 12 were not supported by the source and were incorrect. Please refrain from adding your own personal opinion and edit warring to force your edits through. Esuka323 (talk) 00:51, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Nope, they were correct. The problem is many editors tend to have fan bias.68.47.64.121 (talk) 23:05, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Esuka323. English even confirms here [1] that the series has not been canceled and that she is meeting with CBS' chief creative officer on January 7th to discuss the series' future. The article doesn't need to add trivial information or speculation. It should be updated once an actual decision is made by CBS. – BoogerD (talk) 00:55, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
CBS confirms here that Fam will air in Murphy's time slot starting January 10.[2]68.47.64.121 (talk) 23:02, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
No worries, with CBS losing The Big Bang Theory and potentially Mom(There's a Deadline article highlighting an issue with its lead cast wanting more money should it be renewed), that's one, maybe two empty Thursday slots for the 2019-20 season. And I agree that we need to wait until CBS have made the decision official, whatever it may be. Esuka323 (talk) 01:03, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid the producers haven't gotten their wish yet. My edit notes the time has been replaced and that CBS has declined to order any more episodes. TV By The Number journalist Alex Welch even noted that "“Murphy Brown” ending will make room for the Nina Dobrev-led freshman comedy, “Fam,”" and that the show did not receive an additional episode order. [3] A future meeting doesn't change what the present plans are.68.47.64.121 (talk) 22:49, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Watched basketball and noticed CBS is already advertising Fam.68.47.64.121 (talk) 20:22, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Which has little relevance to Murphy Brown or its renewal chances. It's common for networks to advertise their midseason shows. Esuka323 (talk) 00:53, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Nope, has very strong relevance and is acknowledged on the CBS website as well. If Murphy is renewed, then it will have to find a new time slot.68.47.64.121 (talk) 22:59, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
What is it you imagine we're covering up? This feels like a political stance, not an attempt to be accurate. The source you provided reporting no season 12 mis-reports its primary source. The show was always planned as a thirteen episode closed-end season. That's what we got, and now CBS must make a decision about whether to renew.
Please don't type that I'm taking a "political stance" when you yourself appear to be. Regardless of what the show's influence has been on feminism, it still is no excuse to violate the NPOV policy68.47.64.121 (talk) 22:52, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Meanwhile, so what if CBS is advertising a new show. Shows move in and out of time slots all the time, and the networks advertise accordingly. No big deal. ----Dr.Margi 07:22, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

They have not promoted a new time for Murphy Brown at all. Fam will take Murphy Brown's place on Thursday night starting January 10, as acknowledged on the CBS website[4].68.47.64.121 (talk) 22:42, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

No one suggested that they have promoted a new time slot for Murphy Brown. What has been stated by numerous editors here is this: 1. CBS has yet to officially cancel the series. English herself says here [5] that the series has not been canceled and that she is meeting with CBS' chief creative officer on January 7th to discuss the series' future. 2. One series replacing another series is non-notable. As Drmargi stated above, it happens all the time. This is especially true in the case of Murphy Brown when the season was always intended to be limited in its run and to be replaced with a midseason replacement come spring. – BoogerD (talk) 23:08, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
In that case, Murphy Brown will need a new time slot. This appears to be fan page commentary. I suggest you find a source confirming the Fam will have a different time slot next fall.68.47.64.121 (talk) 23:18, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
What are you attempting to say? I'm not sure what "fan page commentary" is meant to suggest there. A decision has not been made as to either show's status when it comes to cancelation or renewal. Both shows, and others on CBS, will likely move around the schedule as is common practice by broadcast networks when scheduling their new and returning series in the summer. I'm not sure where you are confused. Fam is airing in the same time slot in the spring, yes, but a show was always meant to occupy that spot come January. It's placement there is meaningless when it comes to the status of Murphy Brown as, again, is evidenced here from the show's creator: [6]. – BoogerD (talk) 23:23, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
The show's creator is not the one who makes that decision unfortunately. I wasn't even claiming that Fam will be renewed after its first season, but that at present, Murphy will need a new time slot if renewed and that CBS has not ordered new episodes.68.47.64.121 (talk) 23:25, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
No one was claiming that she was. What was being stated was that she is a better source of information regarding the show's status than some secondary source speculating on the show's future. A decision will be made, by CBS of course, regarding the future of the show in the next month or so. There has been no decision made by David Nevins, the person at CBS whose ultimate call it is, as to whether the series will be renewed or canceled. There is no basis to claim otherwise. – BoogerD (talk) 23:31, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
You are way out ahead of your skis here. Fam is replacing Murphy Brown for the time being. For how long? We don't know. CBS won't announce its fall programs and schedule until the upfronts in May, for heaven's sake. You can't read anything more into the placement of Fam than that it's a new winter replacement show sharing a time slot with Murphy Brown. You're making all manner of assumptions about the status of Murphy Brown based on it having done nothing more than finished its run. ----Dr.Margi 23:35, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

LOL. English doesn't speak for CBS, which has not filed an order for more episodes. She also said "if there's a season 2" in that article.[7]. Claiming "You are way out ahead of your skis here" only makes me laugh.68.47.64.121 (talk) 23:40, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

No one said she does. You're the one pushing the idea that Fam moving into Murphy's slot for the winter means Murphy is being canceled. You're way off the mark. I've asked the blocking administrator to look at your renewed edit warring, so you might want to knock it off. ----Dr.Margi 23:45, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

TV By The Numbers specifically says "“Murphy Brown” ending will make room for the Nina Dobrev-led freshman comedy, “Fam”"[8] Please don't call me "way off the mark."68.47.64.121 (talk) 23:54, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Could you please stop with the edit warring and misinterpretation of the facts? TVBythenumbers is a ratings website and doesn't have any industry writers. When the website talks about the show "ending" they're talking about the season concluding. You're adding poorly written WP:OR and need to stop and discuss. Esuka323 (talk) 00:35, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
You make no sense, and you are way off the mark. You're treating this as though a time slot is real estate and that Fam owns it until it's cancelled. That's far from the case; CBS knew all along that MB would vacate the time slot in December given the show had a closed end 13 episode order (that means no further episodes would be ordered, regardless), after which one of a number of available comedies would take over the slot for its run.
Recognize that shows move in and out of time slots all the time. Moreover, shows end in a variety of ways, most not permanent: hiatus, season finale, cancelation. Clearly, given that it's been stated that MB is up for renewal, which you acknowledge, it hasn't been canceled. Yet you persist in inferring that somehow Fam being the new show in the Thursday 9:30 pm time slot means MB has been canceled. What did you expect CBS to do when MB ran out its 13 episodes? Leave the slot empty? Depending on its success, Fam will run out its order, which CBS may or may not extend, CBS will make a renewal decision about both it and MB, they will develop a fall schedule and we'll see where they both wind up. But that's a far cry from the ownership of the time slot you're attributing to Fam.
Most importantly, information about Fam goes in its article, not this one. All we need say here is that MB has completed its Season 11 run and awaits a renewal decision. Nothing else is germane. ----Dr.Margi 19:09, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Guest cast

edit

The guest cast list in this article is overloaded with minor players and inconsequential actors. I pruned it down to the actors who either appear as themselves along with a few notable additions such as Bette Midler's cameo, Harris Yulin, Brooke Shields and David Costabile, but was reverted. The edit was reasonable: the actors not appearing as themselves that I retained are highly notable actors with long careers by any standard, and the rest of the actors on the list are simply either in too minor roles or far lesser known actors.

I ordinarily subscribe to the practice that we omit guest cast, but these appearances are a long tradition on Murphy Brown, and should be noted. But we need to keep it lean and mean, not load up the list with whatever someone sees on the IMDB, which appears to have happened later in the season. ----Dr.Margi 23:10, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

First off, I suppose I agree with the notion to some extent that guest casts should be omitted from main series articles. If a series has run for multiple seasons or say it has like 22 episodes in one season, than it simply isn't prudent to try and list all guest cast in the main series articles. However, it has been common practice among season articles to note guest actors and characters. So then my second point: what determines notability here? The actors that were added to the article were already pruned down from a full list of everyone credited in the end credits of all 13 episodes of this season (worth pointing out they simply weren't aped from IMDb). Basically, I watched the end credits of each episode and compiled a list 82 guest actors/characters. From that list I looked at which actors had their own articles on Wikipedia (therefore meeting WP:GNG) and pared it all the way down to 27. I will say that after looking through how other shows have formatted their season articles, I've noticed that they don't include character descriptions as they are frequently already included in the main series article and including them would be redundant. So I would certainly say that based on that removing the descriptions is at the very least warranted. I put together a version of that for your comment here:
Let me know what you think. – BoogerD (talk) 23:49, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
