Entire Speech? edit

  • The entire speech?

It seems the entire speech is written in the Wikipedia entry. I was wondering the legality of this..? What is the status on Political Speeches in Canada? Public Domain? What about the CBC recording itself?

I ask mainly because I am interested in using that text in a work of mine... So if it *is* deemed copyright infringement by wikipedians, please explain before deleting. Thank you.

Whatever the legality, the use of the entire speech here is well covered by Wikipedia:Don't include copies of primary sources ("Avoid including entire texts of treaties, press releases, speeches, lengthy quotations, etc"). As the texts exist in full elsewhere, the standard advice is to summarise and cite. Tearlach 11:26, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Black/White cats? edit

I thought what he was referring to was the PCs being the cats voted in to replace the Liberals, seeing as how the speech was made in 1961.Habsfannova 20:15, 27 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Written in 1961? edit

The story had been told for many years before 1961, as such was probably written many years earlier. The recording is just one of the many times he's told the story. For earlier dates see:

http://www.saskndp.com/history/mouseland.html

http://www.civilization.ca/hist/labour/labv29e.html

Both provide the text for 1944

Why has a poorly written ripoff parody of a legendary and historic speech that had a hand in changing canadian politics forever included on this page. Anyone who beleives Brad Wall's parody is worthy of a spot on Tommy Douglas' mouseland page needs to read some history of a great man

Great Man ?? edit

Great Man? You have got to be kidding me. This is the man who condemmed Saskatchewan to 60 years of no population growth, to 'owning' a collection of innefficiently run and gouging Crown Corporations, and to a chain of disasterous political interventions in the province's economy.

Yes. Great man, The Greatest Canadian Actually edit

Our crown corportations are some of the most innovative and cutting egde companies in thier feilds, and they also provide us with the lowest cost of utilities in Canada. Maybe the contributing author should move to Alberta with the rest of the Conservatives.

Oh Please!!! Tommy the Commie is nowhere near the greatest Canadian, and anyone who believes CBC drivel deserves a firm wack to the head. Snickerdo 01:03, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Whack to the head??, come on here man its people like you wannabe Americans who just dont understand. There are people in this country motivated by other things than power, greed and money. People like that have built this country to what it is today and I'm not about to stand by and have the Conservatives, either provincaly or federaly, throw all that out the window just to be in bed with the states. Please explain why such socalist ideals like public healthcare or public auto insurance are such bad ideas. I ask the last poster if he has ever visited a hospital or doctor and if so how much did he pay? I also ask why my auto insurance as a saskatchewan resident is at least 50 percent of the cost of insurance in ontario or alberta?

---

"50% of the cost of insurance in Ontario or Alberta"? Maybe if you are a 16-year-old male Camaro or Mustang 5.0 driver and a big car loan. Otherwise, Alberta and Ontario car insurance is priced similarly to Saskatchewan, and in many instances, is less expensive. Even the Government of Saskatchewan recently acknowledged that Saskatchewan's rates are too high, and announced an 8% rebate on last years' premiums. Obviously you have to compare equals to equals, and not cherry pick certain examples of risk-based premiums in Alberta (ie: that penalize very high risk drivers, ie: those young muscle car drivers) being benchmarked against Saskatchewan's premiums which are not rooted in actuarially-derived underwriting.

Come now, there is no need to argue! If you don't agree that Tommy is the greatest Canadian, then FINE! Keep it to yourself, he's the one that won the CBC contest, who cares!? These are other people's opinions, you don't like them, whatever! And for those that do agree, GREAT! All's good, ok? The person you were rooting for won, NO BIG DEAL!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.230.13.247 (talk) 03:02, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
