Encyclopaedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh
It has been discovered that this book:
- Gupta, Om. Encyclopaedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Gyan Publishing House, 2006. ISBN 8182053897, 9788182053892.
Contains significant amounts of material plagiarized from Wikipedia articles. (Some other books from the same publisher also have this problem). There is no practical way of determining which material came from Wikipedia, and which came from other sources. Further, widespread plagiarism is an indication of poor scholarship. For those reasons, and according to Wikipedia policy, WP:CIRCULAR, I will deleting all citations to the book. However I will not delete the material that cites it, as there's no indication that the material is inaccurate. Article has been updated to only include Mountain Railways of India
The term Mountain Railways of India has a special meaning. It is the name by which 3 mountain line Darjeeling, Shimla and Nilgiri (also Matheran which is in waiting list) have been registered as heritage site by UNESCO.
The term DOES NOT, and i repeat DOES NOT apply to any railway which crosses mountainous areas in India. There are around 20 rail lines in India which cross mountainous areas.
So the Kangra valley railway, Assam railway and Kashmir railway are not part of Mountain Railways of India. Lets see explanation for each of above.
Kangra Valley Railway runs from Pathankot to Joginder Nagar. Few years back when there were demands to convert the line into broad gauge, requests were made to UNESCO for heritage status to this train. But Indian government announced modernisation (conversion to broad gauge) of this railway track due to which heritage status request was cancelled. See first para of Bilaspur–Mandi–Leh railway and the following reference [1]. Same can also be verified by unesco link given in he article.
Assam railway i.e Lumding–Haflong–Badarpur, reuests were made to preserve Mahur–Harangajao section as heritage, which were turned down by railways and conversion to braod gauge has started in 2016. Please see following reference [2]
Kashmir railway was directly built in broad gauge in modern times in 2005. Please see reference [3] For heritage status, the engine should be a steam one and gauge should be narrow gauge.
Also the propsed lines are just proposed , not built.
So these trains are neither part of Mountain Railways of India nor Heritage trains. Hence i am removing their sections from the article. DeadatRail (talk) 14:45, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

The following information about the Kalka–Shimla Railway has just been deleted by an experienced and knowledgeable colleague with the comment "What the folk...lore?": "The Barog Tunnel (No. 33) is the longest tunnel on the line at 1,144 meters (3,753 ft) in length between Dagshai and Solan (270 meters (890 ft) below the road) and is named after the engineer who had commenced digging the tunnel from both sides of the mountain but could not complete it and hence committed suicide (he was buried near the site of the tunnel). His Indian counterpart, known by the name Bhalku, who helped H. S. Harrington to build another tunnel about 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) away from the abandoned tunnel, was honoured with a medal and turban as an appreciation for his contribution to building tunnels, by the then Viceroy of India.[1]"--NearEMPTiness (talk) 00:19, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
