Why? edit

Tell us about the genesis of it. Why was the booth there? 194.46.241.245 (talk) 06:55, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Apparently: “Apparently, this booth was put in after WWII for the use of a nearby mine which ceased operations in the 60s; why the local phone company keeps it operational is anybody's guess. A nearby rancher told me that in the 70s they replaced the old rotary style phone with push buttons because the sheep were having trouble dialing.” 194.46.241.245 (talk) 07:01, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reference on Pete and Pete edit

I'm pretty sure this was referenced on that old show that used to be on Nickelodeon.

It seems unlikely, since Pete & Pete only ran through 1996. -- Scott e 22:31, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
...I'm pretty sure the anon above is actually talking about the booth itself (which had been there since the 1960's, let's not forget), not the phenomenon. I could swear I remember seeing something about it on Pete & Pete, too, actually, now that I think of it. As soon as you all mentioned Pete & Pete in connection to this, I got a mental image of the booth filmed in the way they used to film the show, and I can almost hear the narration (well, correction: I "hear" narration, I just can't remember what it said). Maybe not a whole episode or anything, but a brief aside or some such, and I/the anon could be wrong, but I actually don't think so. It's just the kind of odd little thing that would pique the interest of the show's writers at the time, so it's not at all implausible really. But of course, we can't say this in the article until someone's hunted up what episode it's actually in (if it is in an episode, which again, I think it definitely could have been, and somewhat remember it actually being in). Otherwise, it's just random "I think I saw this once" OR speculation. :P 4.235.45.147 (talk) 22:42, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Photo edit

It would be nice to have a picture of the phone booth if anyone has a free one.  LinguistAtLarge  01:07, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fake photograph? Removed edit

File:Movieposter MojavePhoneBooth2006.jpg

I have removed File:Mojave Phone Booth.jpg. A quick reverse image search shows the photo had been used on many websites for a decade before the 'author' uploaded it to Commons. Moreover, the booth photographed doesn't match authentic photographs or videos of the Mojave phone booth.[1][2][3]. It does, however, look awfully similar to a prop (which appears different to the real booth; see right) used in a 2006 film based on the discovery of the booth. I suspect the photograph that was used in this article is, in fact, a publicity shot for the film! --Hazhk (talk) 02:19, 28 September 2017 (UTC) --Hazhk (talk) 02:21, 28 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
