Different from Optical transfer function?

edit

How is this topic different from Optical transfer function? —Ben FrantzDale (talk) 16:16, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

The optical transfer function is realted to the modulation transfer function by...
the MTF is the magnitude and the PTF is the phase which may or may not be complexed valued depending on the coherency. if the illumination is incoherrent as in an ideal viewing system, then the OTF is real valued and equal to the MTF. (Holst).

Should these two pages be merged? Most likely however the reason they are not has everything to do with User:Dicklyon. He means well, however he is somewhat of an intelectual bully and a merge between the articles involved dealing with him arguing every little thing and at that time it was simply too frustrating.

If you would like to work on the merge then that is ok I am busy with other projects currentlyThe Lamb of God (talk) 14:52, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Possible third calculation method

According to N. J. Schneiders and S. C. Bushong: "Single-step calculation of the MTF from the ERF", Med. Phys. 5(1), pp. 31–33, 1978 [1] the MTF may be directly calculated from an edge spread function without differentiation and therefore without using the corresponding line spread function.
