Apps

I'm deleting the whole Apps section because it doesn't make sense to me to have one, certainly not in its existing form, in which half of the section consists of a list of dozens of apps that are rumored (without citation) will soon be available from the Windows Store. There will soon be many thousands of apps available from the Windows Store. Having a list of them would be like having a Products section of the Walmart article, that lists each of the products that Walmart sells. That's not a road this article should be heading down. Number of Apps

What's in a name

The fate of Windows Store app link

Hi.

ViperSnake151 and Jeh, you two might want to see this discussion.

According to [2] Windows Runtime is becoming available to desktop applications. It appears we no longer can redirect Metro-style app and Windows Store app to Windows Runtime. It would be technically incorrect.

I just wish it was a typo. But Microsoft seems persistent to do things the "one platform to rule them all way", so I guess the chances are slim.

Hi again. It seems we already have APPX and Windows universal app platform. Wow! I must really come out of my shell and don't be shy about posting a draft with some sources missing. Merge with Windows Phone Store

The result of the proposal was This summer, Microsoft is merging the Windows Store, Windows Phone Store and XBOX Store. As such, these articles should be merged.

Oppose Regardless if Microsoft will actually merge the actual Windows Phone Store into the Microsoft Windows Store, the Windows Phone Store as a historical entity still remains to be separate and though Windows Phone 7.x/8.x applications will eventually be listed in the Windows Store the Windows Phone Store still has 5 years of independent history (and I've seen articles about software and software distribution platforms that have lasted way shorter than that). The Windows Phone Store is also the mobile software applications distribution platform of Windows Phone which is a different operating system and runs different code from Windows 10 Mobile, and though they may be merged into 1 in the "real world", the articles describing both are and should remain different, it's like suggesting us to merge the articles for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 into Windows 10 because it's a newer version, historical software that was once notable is always notable. --1.55.1.190 (talk) 08:30, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

What is an APP

What is an "app"? Since about 2010 the term has become very common, in the context of smartphones, and was fairly easy to understand: modular computer application software that interacts with users, obtained and managed via the "store" associated with that smartphone, with typically simple/limited/narrow functionality.

However, now that Microsoft Windows (8 and 10) have evolved to include very similar "apps" on desktop computers, the usage and meaning of the term is becoming very ambiguous and confused. This seems like an intentional marketing scheme. There is a big difference in Windows 10 between traditional desktop application programs and the new app-store managed tile "apps". But in the Win10 context MS is using the term "app" to include all application software of any kind, making it very hard for any of us to talk easily about the significant differences -- which makes it hard for users to think about and be aware of the differences... which seems to be the point as MS tries to migrate all users away from traditional local-install desktop software towards their curated app-store ecosystem.

Completeness and Neutral POV

Ok WTF this article is essentially of stub quality, when the subject matter is an application store that is a strong competitor to the Apple App Store and the Android Play Store. Both of these stores have much more detailed articles, suggesting extreme editorial bias.
