Talk:Microsoft Puzzle Hunt

Also the Iron Puzzler is a new hunt idea is scheduled for November and would be a good addition to this site. Maybe among a list of links to "related events", but I don't think it belongs on this page.

Proposed changes to PHA entry: Due to possible conflict of interest (I was one of the PHA organizers), I have moved all my contributions that were not basic facts to this talk page. If you find them to be worthwhile, feel free to add them back:

  • Memorable Events/Puzzles: Shipwreck, a puzzle which required you to dive to the bottom of a pool to retrieve acrylic rings printed with fragments of navy signal flags. Call of the Past, a metapuzzle that had you build a quinoa-powered computer that produced a phone number. The top three teams finished the hunt separated by only 16 minutes.
  • Landmarks: Largest number of teams finishing. First hunt with automated web answer submission system. First hunt to have a dramatic end-of-hunt spectacle at the closing ceremonies.

Most of these items have been restored.

In 2013, somebody added a notability comment at the top. It's been two years and nobody has argued that this page should be removed, so I got rid of the notability comment. I think a major event by one of the world's largest corporations is notable enough. I left the refimporve tag but I don't know how to fix that. All of the puzzle hunts have been written about, some in major publications which aren't online (like GAMES), some in places that are (like WIRED), and many in places that aren't considered official enough.
