Misc

Mick Thomson on the seven-string guitar fad "Seven-string guitars are gay - they're nothing more than a trend. How many guitarists use all seven strings anyway? Steve Vai can, John Petrucci can. But what about Max Cavalera from Soulfly? He only uses four strings and noone's heavier than him."

This article screams original research... "Mick is suppose to be gaining respect like never before, it has been known that he can play Racer X's "Technical Difficulties" album all off by heart, and his soloing guitar lessons indicate he is more than what meets the eye." What? /Grillo 16:35, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Does anyone feel like making this article a little less, or dare I say, a lot more NPOV?

This article sounds like it was written by a ten year old. What a piece of crap.

The trivia section is terrible. Some are written in full sentences and some in fragments. I'm afraid to touch it. Dihard 00:41, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Another thing is that his name is "Thomson." No "P."

Thompson vs. Thomson

A quick google search shows that it is indeed Thompson. In addition to the majority of pages that had the Thomson spelling in them using the Thompson spelling as the primary spelling, both IMDB and Amazon credit his as Thompson. While I realize this isn't a 100% sure-bet answer, it's more evidence then for the Thomson spelling.

This is simple if you decided to ever buy their new DVD Voliminal: Inside the nine in the starting credits he is credited as Mick Thomson. I remind you the OFFICAL DVD. -- SpyderDragon

His name is definitely "Mick Thomson", per the band's official MySpace page (linked to, as the official page, from the band's page at their label). LastChanceToBe 20:38, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Someone who knows what they're talking about should change it. The article title is Mick Thompson and in the first paragraph it says his name has no P in it. That is sure to confuse people.

His name is clearly Thompson. All fansites say it is, the official biography says it, is the list goes on. I am telling you its Thompson.

Please provide a reference to something official that can be checked, what is this biography? If that really is his name then it should be changed back again once and for all, but there's been a debate over this for a long time now. As it stands we have a link provided above that points to an official site, or at least an officially sponsored site. Furthermore, as per the post above that, the Voliminal DVD supposedly spells it that way as well. Admittedly I haven't checked that either, as I don't own it, but if the fact were incorrect I would hope that someone would have picked up on it by now and posted otherwise. Either way, please provide a more specific reference than "official biography" so we can fact check, it would be very much appreciated if you turned out to be right so I hope to see one here soon!Warhorus 03:38, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Page Move

As it seems like there is pretty strong evidence that the correct spelling is Thomson (as per above section), it seems like a move might be in order. I'm going to wait a week to see if anyone has some reason to contest this, but if his correct name is Thomson, then the page should be moved and a redirect set up. Warhorus 22:02, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

The biography in question is called 'Behind the masks, inside the Sickness' by Jason Arnopp.

The page move has been requested.

Because everyone is asking (and logically so) why we don't just move the page to the correct spelling, I have put a request on the requested moves page. There is a significant edit history, and a useful talk page, on the Mick Thomson redirect page, so I can't just move it. An admin will need to swap it for us. LastChanceToBe 04:16, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I should add that if anyone objects to this move (I don't know why anyone would, but I need to be fair!) then they can note their objection on the requested moves page. Just search down the page for Mick Thomson. LastChanceToBe 04:23, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Page move has been completed

Thank you to our fine admins! LastChanceToBe 19:15, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Not an accurate description of his guitar tuning

His current Ibanez has the word seven in the fret inlays. It's equipped with EMG 60 and 81 pickups and factory tuned to Mick's preference of drop D, down 2 1/2 steps.

This makes absolutely no sense.

Dropped D makes reference to dropping the low E string 1 full step (down to D) and not changing the tuning of the remaining 5 strings from a "standard E" configuration.

Mick Thomson uses Drob B tuning

Redirection and protection

{{editprotected}}I would like for this page to be available to edit as I feel that this page can provide a satisfactory article on this artist containing reliable sources, as those were the reasons why it was removed. Rezter (talk) 12:18, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

FYI, This should normally be requested on Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection_and_unprotection --Storkk (talk) 13:51, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
N Edit declined. Please make this request at WP:RPP. The reasons for the protection are unclear and may need discussion there. Sandstein (talk) 13:56, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
