Reference

edit

Cant figure out why the references appear in the wrong place. Thelmadatter (talk) 18:26, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

What is it exactly about the references that isn't working right? They seem ok to me.  LinguistAtLarge  18:54, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Removed the actual gallery from this talk page to cut down on clutter. All the images and many more can be viewed on the Commons category page: Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City category. — LinguistAtLarge • Talk  20:56, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re-added the gallery!

edit

I re-added a gallery, I think it looks great and really is an improvement for this article.

Hi Eteranalsleeper, and thanks for contributing those images. I have taken the liberty to do a couple of things per Wikipedia policy (for reference, read MOS:IMAGES and WP:IUP#Image galleries). First, I have moved all eight images to commons, a repository for free content. This way the images can be used on any of the wiki projects. After moving the images, I made sure they were all in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City category, then I added a link to that category from the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral page. If you go to the bottom, in the External links section, you'll see the link to the commons category. In this category, you can view all 70+ images of the cathedral. I hope I have explained my actions adequately, if you have any questions, just ask. — LinguistAtLarge • Talk  20:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bell towers

edit

In the "Bell towers" section, it refers to the north/south towers, but the cathedral faces roughly south. Shouldn't those references be changed to east and west towers?  LinguistAtLarge  04:41, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure enough! Good catch... Ill go back to my book when I get home and double check which tower has how many bells.Thelmadatter (talk) 17:40, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wrong year for the fire

edit

The fire was actually on January 17, 1967, not 1962. This mistake, unfortunately, has been copied now in many places in the English-language web.

Here is a quote in the book "Ensayos sobre la Ciudad de México" : El 17 de enero de 1967 un incendio en la Catedral metropolitana de Mexico, ocasionado por defectos de las instalacions electricas, deterioro el Altar de Perdon y parte del Coro. . . .

I think this was the only major fire in the 60s, since the Spanish-language wiki doesn't mention a 1962 fire, and the only sources for it I could find for it are all in English and all share the same wording--quoting this article, I assume.

An easy enough fix, but I just wanted to make sure everyone agrees I'm not mistaken. 66.58.143.86 (talk) 22:37, 26 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
