Globalize edit

Metropole isn't exclusive from England. France, Portugal, and Spain, among other nations and former colonial empires, used this designation as well. Armindo 12:18, 30 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it would be interesting to try to turn this article into something more principled rather than just about the word. Are there good sources? I agree that the UK as the British Empire's metropole parallels the idea of Metropolitan France in many ways. --Delirium (talk) 23:22, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Because there already is a discussion, I added a 'Globalize' tag (and a header for this talk-page topic). I was going to link "metropole" from an article relating to France, but since this article is not relevant, decided not to. ~E:71.20.250.51 (talk) 17:42, 16 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Could it be merged into metropolis? Vermelhamesa (talk) 00:35, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
No, the two terms are oriented completely differently. Look at the definitions. Shenme (talk) 06:19, 7 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

The above discussion and the real situation amazes me. Back in 2005 the original author says "hey, I know this is a more global topic than just England" and leaves the first comment. Then over the years (2007/2008/2010) people add an "Other empires" section and expand that. Then 2011 someone says 'globalize' and someone else says "no, English-only term". Even still the "Other empires" section is added to. Then in 2013 an ...... editor says "Other empires: section completely irrelevant to the topic, so removed it". A year later 2014 someone says 'globalize'! And there are the comments above. Isn't it marvelous discussing something without reference to the fact it existed just a year earlier? And then 3 years later some good soul starts over, putting in info about the Portuguese empire.
This is how hrmph-ist editors do real damage to WP. And this is how discussion-ist editors quite miss opportunities to recover from damage by the hrmph-ists. WP is not being improved by failing to prevent damage and failing to recover from damage. Pick *any* article - over time good text has been removed without cause or by accident/vandalism. How is that repaired? Corrosion says corrosion is a natural process. I fear that is true, here.
Maybe I'll be over my snit tomorrow, and look over the deleted text. All that good effort, hrmphed into oblivion, and everywhere at Wikipedia! Shenme (talk) 06:19, 7 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
