Stop with the Macross already edit

Oppose merge - I am removing all merge suggestions for any Robotech character involved. I agree that Robotech character descriptions should include links to any character descriptions from the original source material. After all, they do share the animation. However, the fact is that Robotech as a story concept and development is completely different from its source material. It's time to end the confusion between them. I agree that the original Macross version and the Robotech remake should be kept separate, but the fact is that Robotech as a story concept and development is not completey different from its source material. To say otherwise is to abuse the definition of the word "completely." Robotech is different, but it's still based on the source material and not a "completely" different story.1-54-24 (talk) 22:19, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Don't unilaterally make sweeping changes like this. See WP:CON. The purpose of the mergeto templtes is discussion of a merge, not a demand of merge. Granted there's been little interest in the issue for a long time, but out of what discussion has occured, there's been no consensus. Removing the template only further hinders this effort, because it prevents people from gathering on one talk page. Also, the discussion wasn't actually taking place on said talk page until just yesterday, because it had been deleted (since the corresponding article didn't yet exist), but I had it restored when I created the page TheBilly (talk) 22:16, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Equivalence vs Inspiration edit

I am tired of people messing around with the words I used to separate Sterling from Jenius when I'm the original guy who separated them in the first place. Let's vote on it.

The definition of "inspiration" is: An agency, such as a person or work of art, that moves the intellect or emotions or prompts action or invention

The definition of "equivalent" is: corresponding in position, function, etc.

It's true that Macross inspires the creation of Robotech, but Jenius does not inspire the creation of Max Sterling. The relative proximities of their character development are necessities considering the shared animation. Indeed this argument is true for all the characters. The simple fact of the matter is that they simply occupy the same position in the shared animation - the very definition of equivalent. There is no inspiration there. Sterling was not written out of thin air. Macross inspired Robotech. Max Jenius inspired Max Sterling. It's as simple as that. Sterling may be taking a different path later, but he was originally inspired by Jenius. Otherwise, what do you claim inspired Sterling? 1-54-24 (talk) 19:15, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
