Religious upbringing

edit

The article says "Mary was not baptised nor and was brought up as a Christian." I'm changing this to "Mary was neither baptised nor brought up as a Christian." -- if it should mean something different, please correct this change. Thanks Kiore (talk) 22:31, 11 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Public domain images of Kingsley's travels.

edit

There are numerous public domain images from Kingsley's books posted on Flickr: see https://www.flickr.com/search/?tags=kingsleymaryhenrietta. I'm not familiar with Kingsley's work enough to know which would be best to illustrate this article, but photographs are always a plus! --Animalparty-- (talk) 07:05, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Species named in Kingsley's honour.

edit

I understand the West African longhorn beetle Pseudodictator kingsleyae is named in honour of Kingsley. I believe an image should be available from the Natural History Museum, London website licensed under the CC BY 4.0 license if it is needed. Ambrosia10 (talk) 21:38, 22 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Some 18 species of fish I think are named after her as well. Three of them are shown on http://pages.nbb.cornell.edu/neurobio/hopkins/mkingsley.html ("Freshwater Fishes Named After Mary H.Kingsley"). Beetles and fish should probably be recorded on the page under Legacy. 24.136.4.218 (talk) 10:51, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Misleading notions

edit

"Mary landed in Sierra Leone on 17 August 1893 and pressed on into Luanda in Angola. She lived with local people, who taught her necessary skills for surviving in the African jungles and gave her advice." One can simply not press into Angola from Sierra Leone. She went from Sierra Leone to Angola by sea. "She lived with local people, who taught her necessary skills for surviving in the African jungles". This is quite strange, because there is no jungle in Angola. Xact (talk) 16:10, 28 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
