Mary Chind-Willie is the 2010 Pulitzer prize winning photographer for her photo of a volunteer fire fighter rescuing a woman from a flooded river. --

Mary lives in an old farmhouse in Altoona, Iowa with her husband Troy. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Mary, where she received her BFA in 1989 concentrating on graphic design and communications. Mary enjoys photography, traveling, gardening and fixing up her home and farm.

Chind's photograph won First Place in NPPA's Best Of Photojournalism competition in the Domestic News category because the photo shows "the heart stopping moment when a rescuer dangling in a makeshift harness tries to save a woman trapped in the foaming water beneath a dam," the Pulitzer board said. -- The Pulitzer Prizes is a different prize, use it's description for its prize not the NPPA prize.
