William founded Mala Mala Game Reserve and was a keen conservationist. His brother was Dr Samuel Campbell (younger son of Marshall). Sam was the founder of the Natal Technical College which became the Durban University of Technology. William had two sons as well as daughters. His eldest son Athol was a pilot who was killed in WW2. Atholton Primary School is named after him.The younger son Urban was the founder of the NSRI in Durban. The poet Roy Campbell was the son of Sam and was the grandson of Marshall. Dr George Campbell son of Samuel and grandson of Marshall became Chancellor of Natal University. George Campbell Technical College is named after him. They were a high achieving Natal family.
