Talk:Mark Starowicz

"From 1992 to 2015, he [Mark Starowics] was an executive documentary producer for the CBC".

Something is wrong with that statement. In 1996, Mark Starowicz was in charge of a special classified advertising project at the Montreal Gazette newspaper. I know this because I dealt with him (when he was at the Gazette) over the telephone for a Westmount law firm where I was working. Starowicz possibly was between jobs, but he did one day announce to me, over the phone, that he was leaving the Gazette for the CBC.

So, the suggestion that he worked non-stop for CBC in the role above needs clarifying, which you can probably only do with him, if he cooperates.

The classified ad program he was working on involved VOICE-ADS with phone box numbers, so you could call in and hear more details about a print ad.

Gazette was probably owned by Power Corporation of Canada at the time, through GESCA. I would suspect that if Starowicz needed a "temp job" between his CBC assignments, Power Corporation would have supplied one as a favor.

But that was Starowicz, no doubt in my mind. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.115.101.61 (talk) 01:33, 2 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Check The Canadian Encyclopedia:

http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/mark-starowicz-profile/

The author of this profile on Starowicz has truthfully pointed out that the CBC turfed Starowicz in 1992, quite suddenly, at the height of The Journal, and put the show's set through a wood-chipper. After which, Starowicz being obviously jobless, i.e., not with the CBC any more after 1992, he "drifted" says the profile, written by Robert Sheppard.

This now makes sense. Starowicz definitely was working in Classified advertising at the Montreal Gazette in 1996. However, according to Sheppard, the 1995 referendum absolutely intervened before Starowicz got back to producing shows:

"Then came the dead heat of the 1995 Quebec Referendum, and both he and the country were given another roll of the dice. Starowicz says he wants to leave a true record of Canada's history for his two teenage daughters and their generation in an idiom they can understand - television. But there may be another rationale at work - redemption. "Mark needs this project," one of his former senior producers says. "He needs to show he can still move with the times.""

In 1996, while at the Gazette in classified ads, Starowicz one day said to me over the phone he was leaving the Gazette the following week. He went back to the CBC! Only after 1996 did Starowicz do [1] Breaking Point / Point de rupture - on the 1995 Quebec referendum; and [2] Canada A People's History.

I therefore suggest using The Canadian Encyclopedia to help correct the FALSE statement in Wikipedia that "From 1992 to 2015, he [Mark Starowics] was an executive documentary producer for the CBC". Starowicz was NOT employed by the CBC at least from the time The Journal was cancelled in 1992, until some time in 1996 when he quit the Gazette and went back to the CBC. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.115.101.61 (talk) 00:59, 11 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
