Since some users literally got rid of Turkish names in articles of placenames in Greece, should we delete Greek name here based on the same logic? Or will this practice become double standard? Filanca (talk) 18:01, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't mean to be provocative - especially in view of the comment above - but it is truely quite an accomplishment discussing the history of Magnesia without any reference to the word "greek" or its derivatives. I can sympathize with the political sensitivities of some readers, but I don't believe this should compromise the information content of this - or any - wikipedia article. Loder Park citation

I suggest we remove the direct quote by Loder Park (below) since the same subject matter of 1922 is already served by Fisher and Kinross references. I checked to see these were added by an anonymous user passing under the name DragonTiger23. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/DragonTiger23. It would have been much better to have regular contributors with profiles handling such sensitive topics but well, that's wikipedia.

"James Loder Park, the U.S. Vice-Consul in Constantinople at the time, who toured much of the devastated area immediately after the Greek evacuation, described the situation in the surrounding cities and towns of İzmir he has seen, as follows:[13]

"Manisa...almost completely wiped out by fire...10,300 houses, 15 mosques, 2 baths, 2,278 shops, 19 hotels, 26 villas...[destroyed]."

Consul Park concluded:[13]

"1. The destruction of the interior cities visited by our party was carried out by Greeks. 2. The percentages of buildings destroyed in each of the last four cities referred to were: Manisa 90 percent, Cassaba (Turgutlu) 90 percent, Alaşehir 70 percent, Salihli 65 percent. 3. The burning of these cities was not desultory, nor intermittent, nor accidental, but well planned and thoroughly organized. 4. There were many instances of physical violence, most of which was deliberate and wanton. Without complete figures, which were impossible to obtain, it may safely be surmised that 'atrocities' committed by retiring Greeks numbered well into thousands in the four cities under consideration. I wonder why this is the only part in history section which needs to be overquoted. I'm against this quotefarming madness. I'm also against a detailed addition of the 1300s events, by quoting Gregory Pachymeres. A brief mention on both events (early 14th and early 20th century) is simply enough for this article.Alexikoua (talk) 14:31, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Bad ISBN

Because it is causing a Checkwiki error #73: "ISBN-13 with wrong checksum", I removed the ISBN from the entry:

Manisa 2007 484 p. ISBN 978-975-575-800-5 (in Turkish). Governorship of Manisa. April 2007.

I have tried unsuccessfully to locate the correct ISBN on the Internet. The main problem--the title is so simple--Manisa 2007--that Google search finds too many hits. Knife-in-the-drawer (talk) 04:23, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
