Can someone explain to me why 900 Google hits for a village with these characteristics is on the low side? Half the village stubs for rural Wiltshire that I spend the occasional hour or so expanding are for villages with considerably fewer hits, and also less notability. I submit that a village on a major trekking route, with a valley named after it, and with its own language and thus a subject of scholarly work published in English and available at, for example, amazon, is notable. Just typical Aryan people. Some people by false data are even making them descendents of Alexander. Alexander was defeated by Puru a Kshatriya from the Jhelam. Yes Alexander did come to the Pakistani Punjab where more often (not all) people are dark. I actually trekked up to Malana last year (July 2006). The town is almost exactly as the article described in terms of language, traditional customs, "fines", the damn project, Nepalis, etc.. The children there are fair skinned with reddish streaked hair (which could be the result of malnutrition, but I didn't speak the language, so I'm not sure). And, I don't think it's a sales ad to call the peaks there "majestic." That valley has some of the best trekking because of its natural beauty. Would you also argue that a description of the "beautiful Macchu Picchu" is also editorial & requires rewriting?

Haplogroup J2

It is mentioned that haplogroup J2 is not found in Greeks, this is not true, it is the second most common haplogroup amongst Greeks.( As well described on Wikipedia ) 94.109.168.230 (talk) 18:22, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

The sentence - "Malana has been called ‘one of the oldest democracies’ in the world.[7][8] The villagers believe that they are descendant of Aryan civilization. [9][10]" - in the history section use news and tourism-related sources, which are not considered reliable especially in this section. History section has to have WP:HISTRS compliant sources. Hence have to be removed.

Secondly, the section Malana, Himachal_Pradesh#Hellenic connection is based on a an old (2010) genetic study that mentions nothing about Greeks in the (abstract), so it is a case of WP:OR, not to mention DNA studies are not included in settlement articles, WP:PRIMARY applies. Also is this study peer reviewed? I don't see any percentages either in the abstract. What do you say Kautilya3?. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:48, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

I think the section is fine, because there are apparently legends of Greek ancestry, and that is a genetic study has been done. It shows that there isn't any truth to these beliefs. We can perhaps retitle the section to something like "Claims of Hellenic heritage".

Also, there has been some Aryan POV pushing over the last couple of years. That can be reverted. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 11:13, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

@Kautilya3: @Fylindfotberserk: Under govt section there is also weird bit where some have added they have their own constitution and consider themselves not part of India lol but it's just panchayat..theres some weird exotification of this town. @Kautilya3: I can only view the abstract and that doesn't say anything about the claimed Greek heritage or debunking it. The whole Hellenic connections section was unsourced when initially added a few years ago, and the genetic study is placed to justify it, which makes the section nothing but a case of WP:OR IMO. What we can do is remove the Hellenic connections section, it is misplaced here either way. Second, if we have good sources, add a "Claims of Hellenic heritage" subsection within the "History", remove the unsourced claims, and copyedit. There are a few books on it being the "oldest democracy" [1], but how many of these sources are scholarly? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:08, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

I added a jstor link, which hopefully you can access. It has a good discussion of the democracy issue, as well a lot of other background info, that can be added. Nothing about Hellenic connection however. I don't know how widespread the belief in hellenic ancestry is, but the sourcs were already there before the aricle got corrupted. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 15:56, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

• @Kautilya3: sir i don't think any recent study talks about hellenic ancestry because there is none in south asia region, only example of such ancestry is known from colonial era dead individuals from Roopkund. Malana page has many section is unsourced and genetic study also does not mention it.
