Is this even slightly correct?

(Moved from Talk:Livery stable) I would not normally understand livery stable to mean (as the article says) a "place where horse owners keep their horses in return for a fee". I'd understand it to mean a place from which you can rent a horse, especially a horse and horse-drawn vehicle. Is there any citable basis for the definition in the article? And am I not correct in my understanding? - Jmabel | Talk 07:35, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

US and UK use

There was an article titled "Livery stable" that was about 3/4 identical to this one (containing boarding stable info for the UK version) but also with the bit of USA historical info that I added here. They had merge tags on, so I merged. I suppose there's an argument for merging them both as "Livery stable" if that's the more common UK use, but in the USA, no one uses the term any more for anything, it's archaic. A whole American Old West article on livery stables may be a useful addition eventually, but to do it right, it would require actual research, which I, at least, do not have the motivation to do! LOL! We also have some messy little related articles like stable, barn, equestrian center, etc... might be a project for WPEQ to organize...after the other 2000 articles in the project get fixed, sigh...Montanabw(talk) 21:15, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

I think there is mileage in an article on the historical thing – I have a feeling it may have been called "Livery stable" in the UK too. Richard New Forest (talk) 21:30, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
Note that we have a nice PD photo of a historic livery stable, File:CascadeLivery.jpg available for the (hypothetical) historical article. I'm not sure removing it from this article at the merge was justified -- as this is the only article now extant that mentions the historical usage, and every Western movie fan would want to see a photo of the real thing ;-) Pete Tillman (talk) 05:39, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
On second thought, what we need is a "History" paragraph in this article, rather than creating a new one, as has been done in hundreds of other WP articles -- see, forex, Limousine. Pete Tillman (talk) 14:21, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
The problem is that there is a difference between the UK Livery yard and the USA boarding stable, but yes, a nice history section might work Montanabw(talk) 20:34, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
