Areas for cleanup edit

  1. Images need to be properly integrated into the article, not just sitting in galleries. If any images can't be comfortably integrated into the article, that means they're not really relevant and should just be removed.
  2. The timelines are totally unsourced and there's no indication of why the specific events included in the timelines are significant (and why events not included are not); the things included in the timeline seem to be cherry-picked based on the author's personal experience, rather than with a basis in any reliable sources. Furthermore, since there is no explanation of why the events in them is significant, they don't really contribute to the reader's understanding of the topic; they're just clutter. I will be removing them shortly.
  3. Article should probably be moved back to its old title. "Live event support" is a broad and ill-defined term and makes it so the article is less about a specific topic (which is what Wikipedia articles are supposed to be) and more a personal essay by the author. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 06:18, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

  1. I am confused - My original goal was to create an overview of Live event support technology by putting numerous aspects in a single article. I received several comments that the article needed reorganization because the old "Live event visual amplification" title included a sound section. Now you say I should not do that ???
  2. I disagree that the timelines do not add to the article. All the dates are milestone events in a particular support area and define the first time that equipment was available. I will add footnotes to explain more PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE. Also please remember that I am a timeline expert - see http://www.howoldisit.com
  3. I am working on integrating the images into the text I agree the galleries are klunky but I couldn't figure out how to place single images when I first started on the wiki. (and I am still unsure of how to place images close to text.)

As for the first point: the issue is that you need to specifically define the scope of the article. The problem before was that you included information that was outside the scope of the article's original title (sound info in an article purporting to be about visual technology). The issue now is that you've defined it too broadly: according to the intro paragraph, you intend to write not just about amplification technology, but also about more general "support" things like marketing, advertising, organizing transportation, etc. That's simply too general, and would make the article almost like a "how to organize an event" piece. Wikipedia is not a how-to guide, and to be honest there is probably already a general article about event organizing, so there would be no need for you to write something that broad. Something specifically about the technology for visual and audio amplification might be warranted, but not something super-general.
As for the timelines... first of all, the fact that you are an expert doesn't matter, Wikipedia judges the quality of contributions rather than the identity of its editors; it doesn't matter who you are or who I am. Secondly, the timeline is uninformative if it doesn't say why these events were milestones or what specifically they were and what they changed/marked. To put it simply, Wikipedia is mostly meant to be a prose encyclopedia that people can sit down and read, and timelines are not the best way of presenting most information. I know you like www.howoldisit.com (and may even be affiliated with it), but this is Wikipedia, and we are just not as into timelines as hOii is.
