Methodology for Charts

While I'm VERY appreciative of the English reprinting of these charts here, this article does need a section explaining Barquera's methodology for said charts. As the article is now, we can't be sure if these charts are based on objective info from the period (e.g. published charts, record label sales figures, etc.) or created using sources gathered and vetted by Barquera himself. Presumably, his methodology is detailed in his book, so if someone could add a section to the article with that info, that'd solve the issue. 71.217.188.65 (talk) 19:16, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

• Thanks for bringing this up. I've just added this info on the article, taken from Mejía's explanation of his methodology in the book. I hope the information is clear, since English is not my first language. Also, I was impressed by the Musicosas book mentioned by Mejía, as that book seems to have weekly charts from 1948 to 1960. It would be very nice to get access to it and publish those weekly charts here; unfortunately from what I can see, that Musicosas book is very expensive to get on the internet. --CHUI372 (talk) 21:57, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

I recently got access to a copy of the "Musicosas" book

A couple of weeks ago I visited the library of the Universidad Veracruzana, where they have a copy of the book "Musicosas", the book that contains the monthly charts of the Selecciones Musicales magazine from 1948 to 1960 and which Mejía Barquera used in order to do his annual charts for those years. One thing I found is that the charts compiled in that book include the song titles and the name of the composers, which is to say, they do NOT credit the singers. But Mejía Barquera's annual charts do include the names of the singers, which would mean that he did original research to find out who were the singers who recorded the songs and made them famous, and when he credited some songs as having been recorded by "various artists", I guess that either he found that those songs had been recorded by too many performers to list them all, or he wasn't able to actually find who had recorded them. I'll try to find out who were the singers who recorded the songs that he credited to "Various artists" and I'll include them in this article.

Also, I uploaded all the montly charts from the Musicosas book scanned by me. Whoever is interested in consulting them, I've uploaded them to a Facebook page named "Listas musicales de México - Notitas Musicales y Selecciones Musicales", you'll find them on the albums section, each album contains more or less one year of charts.
