Splitting UK lists at 1922

• I do not think this is appropriate. We do not normally split UK lists at the point when the Irish Free State left the UK.

I also understand that, technically, the official name only changed to 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland' a few years after the boundary change took place (from the United Kingdom article in 1927). --Gary J (talk) 11:18, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Election of a new Speaker

Before we get a large clash of people editing this page can I point out that, constitutionally, the resolution by the House of Commons 'that A. B. do take the chair as Speaker' does not itself make that person Speaker. That has to wait for a Royal Commission in the House of Lords which will take place about an hour and a half later. Until then, the House of Commons has a Speaker-elect, and not a Speaker. Sam Blacketer (talk) 18:52, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Full dates?

If anyone can find a list with full dates, that would be useful - I've found dates for speakers up to 1921 from an old book, and we have the dates for speakers since 1976 in their individual articles already, but I haven't been able to find anything for the intermediate period, and don't want to update the article until we can get a full list. But surely the full dates for 20th century speakers should not be hard to find? john k (talk) 22:30, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

'Speakers who resigned'

Recommend "speakers who resigned" table is deleted. Firstly, it is unsourced, and contravenes Wikipedia:Verifiability#Responsibility for providing citations. Secondly, it adds very limited additional information (often duplicating what is already in the table above), and the rest of the detail is predominantly excessive/trivial. "Crown Steward and Bailiff for the Chiltern Hundreds and "Crown Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead" are not substantive offices; "taking the Chiltern Hundreds" is a procedural device to facilitate a mid-term resignation from the House of Commons: it is of limited relevance to the reader, and as trivia should not be given undue prominence in a table of its own. Where the resignation is in some way unusual, the information is better included in the main table, and indeed much of it already is. Having given it several days, with no objections, I have omitted the table. Please remember in future Wikipedia:Verifiability#Responsibility for providing citations: "All content must be verifiable. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material, and it is satisfied by providing an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports the contribution."
