Why is Canada listed as a sovereign State from this point forward? Yes its constitution formed it as a nation but it was a colony of the British Empire until 1931 at best or possibly 1919 at the Treaty of Versailles. I know it's rather murky, but as an encyclopedia, Wikipedia should make an effort to clarify on this point.
I think we should clarify that in the middle XIX century some states were regarded as chinese tributaries: Burma, Siam, Annam, Brunei, Sulu.
Joseon and RyuKyu were tributaries of both, China and the Japan.
Nepal and Bhutan were either tributaries of China and British Indian protectorates.
Sarawak was regarded as a British protectorate.
Negeri Sembilan in western sources was known as "Rumbo".
Tokugawa shogunate was not the official name of the Japanese state, since the formal paramount chief still was the Tenno. Consequently, I think the official flag were not the Tokugawa arms here shown.
