Eumn.... a list of socialist songs?! haha well er...

Katuscha by all means is not a socialist song. just a friendly love song about a girl who is waiting for her friend to return from the war.

And well... As a Trotskyist... I can't say I think the Hymn of the USSR and those 2 Chinese songs are Socialist...

But even then... if you think they are... they are not as importiant as the Internationale, The Red flag, the marxist ABC and all that kind of stuff.

I'm skeptical about this list. I think that socialist movement/labour movement songs makes sense (see Jacob's list of labor songs below). Songs of "socialist" countries, this makes less sense. Other Labor Songs

I'm not sure what people intend to include or exclude here. I wrote up the following entries but decided to move them to the talk page until we can reach some consensus.

• We Have Fed You All for a Thousand Years - An Unknown Proletarian, 1908.
• Workingmen, Unite - by E.S. Nelson, 1908.
• The Banner of Labor - anonymous, 1908.
• Paint 'Er Red - Ralph Chaplin or Elmer Rumbaugh, 1913.
• The Rebel's Toast - Joe Hill, 1914.
• Solidarity Forever - Ralph Chaplin, 1915.
• Commonwealth of Toil - Ralph Chaplin.

And yes, I'm starting with Kornbluh because it's easiest to get though one source, noting the more famous of the class-struggle-oriented songs, and then the next source, and so on. Jacob Haller 19:26, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Socialist or Communist?

Putting the Internationale and early-20th century Union songs together with North Korean, Soviet and Czechoslovak Stalinist propaganda is nasty. There is a great difference between Socialism and Communist, although these terms are often mixed in the United States. Read how Lenin and other Bolsheviks were reacting to the Social Democracy. MOS:FLAG?

I am not convinced that flags should be used in this list, per MOS:FLAG, as the country of origin has no official importance here. (Separately, it strikes me as ironic for a socialist list!) I defer to a more experienced editor's judgment. IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 12:37, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

No issue with writing the country of origin, which I agree is useful information; I just have issue with the flags! Sorry, my comment was unclear: an easier read would be "the state of origin" rather than the country. IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 23:11, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
