list of navigational stars

edit

The list published in Bowditch was varying over time. --62.167.216.103 (talk) 10:37, 5 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I've just made a comparison of the stars listed here against the "list of brightest stars" wikipedia page, and several of the apparent magnitudes don't line up. Particularly: Alpha CenAB, Capella, Betelgeuse, Acrux, Dubhe, Polaris, Alphecca, Avior, and Geinah all have apparent magnitudes that are not in agreement with the general consensus. Wouldn't it be helpful to mention the colors of the stars? TomS TDotO (talk) 21:27, 24 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Magnitude errors

edit

As an IP user wrote in 2014, several of the apparent magnitudes are way off. Capella is one obvious example, which isn't even close to correct. Some of the double stars seem to have the magnitude listed for only one of the components (the brightest or another), which isn't relevant when the star is used for navigation. No idea where that figure for Capella came from. Wikipedia should use the figures in SIMBAD.Skeptic2 (talk) 12:54, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
