Criteria

Do we really want to have this list? Possible problems with the list: the criteria are rather fuzzy -- what is a "significant disability"? (Does JFK's war injury count?) Also, I expect it will always be US-centered... --Austrian 20:49, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

I (Briton) agree - there should be established criteria on what is "significant" as a guide to future contributions. I myself have added some 70 people to the list of Physically Disabled MPs (all of whom were disabled when serving in the House of Commons) in Records of members of parliament of the United Kingdom but I would be hesitant to blanketly add them here.Cloptonson (talk) 10:55, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

In update, I have added (copied over from the other article) British MPs who had losses of sight and limbs, and a few Prime Ministers and party leaders who were partly disabled. Though not the intention, the British list now to some extent counterweights the Americans'. I have listed Michael Davitt, who lost an arm, under Ireland as he sat for Irish constituencies of the British parliament and was an Irish republican.Cloptonson (talk) 19:42, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Haidlmayr

I am not sure if it can be said that she is not a member of parliament despite her disability. I do not want to claim that she is in parliament because of her disability, but it certainly played a role in her being nominated, as fighting discrimination of the handicapped is an important topic for her party, the Austrian Greens. --Austrian 20:49, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

BLP

It is a firm rule that living people should appear in a list of this nature only if sourced. But since this is a list, the ones with actual articles--by far the majority--and where the actual articles document it--are sourced. unencyclopedic

Unencyclopedic is the vaguest of criteria, and quite appropriately not a policy. so more than one person's judgment might be needed. Mine differs, so if you still consider it unsuitable, its a contested prod, and therefore will go to AfD for the appropriate more general discussionDGG 07:39, 3 January 2007 (UTC).

Katalin Szili

Katalin Szili is listed without specifiying the disability. Her Wikipedia article mentions no disability.Cloptonson (talk) 20:27, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

Chile

I'd suggest including Catalina Parot, former chilean Minister of National Assets. The highest ranking disabled politician in our history. Unarticled names

I have deleted a few names from this page because they have not (at least yet) articles that would qualify them as wiki notable. I list these names here with intention they can be reinstated at such time they have wikipedia articles on them. (I have already wikilinked names that were unlinked when entered.) Other users are welcome to add names to this list which may have purpose of encouraging articles to be written.

• Sipan Asatryan (Armenia) - Yerevan City Council member (blind)
• Conner Copeman (Canada) - village councillor in Cumberland County, British Columbia (quadriplegia with limited use of extremities after being victim of a violent attack in Saskatoon)
• Dr Samuel Ankeli (Nigeria) - senior special assistant to the President on Disability from 2016-19 (blind)
