Talk:List of parks in Seattle

There is a park whose name I can't remember and I don't think is listed. As one takes Lake Washington Blvd. East from East Madison Street down the hill to Lake Washington, one goes through a park in which Lake Washington Blvd East goes through a hairpin turn. I believe this park was one of those designed by the famous Seattle Engineer whose name I can't remember. In any case I have uploaded several pictures of the hairpin curve and they are looking for a place to rest.

That is Lakeview Park. A great way to find out the names of parks is to use Seattle's Fleets & Facilities Department's mapping application (link below)--use "identify property management area" when you get to the map of the park you're researching. Another good resource is the Parks & Recreation Department's A-Z Directory.

Come to think of it, we could basically dump http://www.cityofseattle.net/parks/parkspaces/parklist.htm into here. --Lukobe 19:26, Oct 13, 2004 (UTC)
That list includes over 400 entries, many of which are "boat ramps," school "playfields" or "playgrounds" and many that are much less than one acre. Perhaps we could start by selecting those that City Parks has linked to a further description of "parks" and more than a couple of acres, unless noteworthy for some other reason (e.g., Pioneer Square). Criteria?

edit

What, if anything, are the criteria for inclusion in this list? I just added Seattle Center—an absurd omission—but I notice, for example, that Pioneer Square and major viewpoints such as Jack Block Park and Bhy Kracke Park are missing, while relatively unknown parks such as Northacres Park and Alvin Larkins Park are included. All four parks in Montlake are mentioned, but neither Hiawatha Playfield, Parsons Gardens, nor the Ballard Commons make the list. The rather tiny Fremont Peak Park is listed, but Judkins Park is not. Etc. - Jmabel | Talk 06:53, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Also, is this a list only of parks in the Seattle Parks system? What about the Carl S. English, Jr., Botanical Gardens, or the privately owned Wisteria Park? - Jmabel | Talk 06:59, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Revisiting over a decade later: no mention of most of the parks owned and operated by the Port of Seattle. - Jmabel | Talk 23:18, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Guess I'll deal with this myself. - Jmabel | Talk 17:58, 20 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
