List membership

I was asked to weigh in on some of the recent additions here. Specifically I was asked (1) whether fictional characters based on real characters like Balto should be put in the list? (2) Whether characters lacking nobility should remain in the list? and (3) Whether characters that originated in literature or comics should remain in the list?

1 - Balto is a link to an article on a real live dog, not an animated dog so the link is inappropriate. A better link would be Balto (animatd character) and it should only be added if the animated character is notable. The description of Balto currently reads: "Balto a wolf dog is think". That is a meaningless sentence fragment suggesting possible WP:OR and should be fixed right away.

2 - Characters lacking notability should not remain on the list. This list is described as subsidiary to List of fictional dogs. Since notability is one of the inclusion criteria at that list, it is at this list as well. Notability can be proved by the use of reliable sourcing.

3 - The origin of characters in literature or other media is difficult to answer. I don't think there is consensus one way or the other. On the one hand if we include such characters then we risk duplication. One the other hand if we exclude these characters then we risk and endless stream of well-intentioned additions and we risk failing to provide information that readers are seeking. It's a tough call. I would recommend posing the question at the talk page of WikiProject Fictional characters.

I would agree with point 3 that adding characters that originated from one media/source into animation would lead to redundancy. For instance there are so many adaptions to famous works like "Alice in Wonderland" that if the animated characters of the "White Rabbit" based on that book were to be listed on the animated section of fictional rabbits, the table would be crowded and the list of adaptions in the book article would be completely pointless. An exception would be if the animated character differentiates greatly from the literature it was based on and vice versa. Deltasim (talk) 15:36, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

Balto animated character pages now exist: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balto_(film) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balto_(character) Character can be added to the list. If animated dogs that are based on real-life dogs are to be excluded, that should be noted in the table header. Missing/potential additions

Several animated/fictional dogs I knew and loved when I was younger are not on this list. I'm not fully aware on how to add them in, but would characters like those I will list below qualify for the list?

Clifford-Clifford the Big Red Dog

Scamp-Lady and the Tramp 2, Scamp's adventure (Lady and Tramp's son)

Ace-Batman Beyond

Max-The Little Mermaid
