Title Changes

On the title changes section, something should be added about Dwight being promoted to Regional Manager and retaining the Assistant Regional Manager title, and his demotion Sales Representative. Also, Andy's promotion and subsequent demotion should be documented. IcedPingu 20:27, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Character Description

Right now, it lists the character description "from series start." I think this should be changed to CURRENT, for example, Jim is now a higher-up than he was before. As an encyclopedic article, in such a short description phrase, the current position should be used, and a more elaborate paragraph on the history of the character should be saved to their individual character article. Cast-List Format

Would the cast list look better like:

Steve Carell as Michael Scott, the Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton office
I looked at a few TV shows here and that seems to be the prevalent cast-list style. See
Malcolm in the Middle, NYPD Blue, Miami Vice
--Jeremy Butler 12:44, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
I like both your idea and what we've got up there right now. I prefer to have a description of the characters' roles along with the actors who play them unlike those other shows. Regarding your example: I think the characters should come before the actors who play them. Something formatted like:
Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, is the Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton office.
I guess that's not too different from what's currently there. I just don't like the repetition of the characters' names. --Mrtea 23:18, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I want to get away from the repeated character names, too. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a standard for how cast lists should be done. Wikipedia:WikiProject Television is not much help. Its cast-list format is pretty weak. --Jeremy Butler 01:17, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Haha yeah its examples aren't very uniform at all. That should probably be brought up in that WikiProject... for now why don't we go for something like:
Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) is the Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton office.
Are we coming to a "consensus?" :) --Mrtea 04:31, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
I think we are! Although we should ask Vossman to weigh in since he's done the most work here. Vossman? What do you think? --Jeremy Butler 01:09, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Also, I like the use of parentheses and would recommend deleted "played by" as most readers would assume that. So, things could be shortened to:
Michael Scott (Steve Carell) — the Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton office.
--Jeremy Butler 01:09, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
I'll agree with the consensus; I just had some things I wanted to get in place --04:32, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Character names -- no middle names

I propose we keep the character name to firstname lastname (if known) and exclude all middle names for clarity. I have been reverting this, but probably should have some discussion. --vossman 21:24, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

I agree and have reverted some anonymous edits that had put their previously reverted edits back in place. Both those ip addresses now have the note about the revisions so they know why the edits were reverted. If anyone opposes this please leave a message. Mrtea (talk) 02:29, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't see any reason why the middle names can't be on the main page. --anon (unsigned)

I don't think they should be listed, mainly for clarity (as mentioned above) and personally I just think it looks ugly. If this above anonymous user feels so strongly about it, I don't think it's worth the keep effort to keep reverting their edits. Mrtea (talk) 02:57, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Character names should be given as the character is commonly known on the show. Things like middle names and honorifics count as trivia and go onto the biography page. -- Raymondc0 20:44, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Wrong aspect ratio

All of the screen shots added by 65.9.242.243 make a nice addition, but unfortunately they're all in the wrong aspect ratio so everyone looks too skinny. They all need to be resized. I thought of reverting all of them, but then figured the distortion wasn't extreme enough for that.

Here's an example of what needs to be done:

The original file is 203 x 277 pixels, which is an aspect ratio of 1 x 1.36.

File:TheOffice Kevin.jpg

With that height (203 pixels), its width should be 361 pixels, resulting in a ratio of 1 to 1.78 (which is appropriate for TV widescreen).

File:TheOffice Kevin 178.jpg

--Jeremy Butler 13:15, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Layout of images

The layout of all the new, minor-character images needs to be better thought out. Perhaps the <gallery> tag could be used. --Jeremy Butler 13:15, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

I agree completely! The picture to text ratio is WAY too high. --vossman 15:34, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Minor cast

All the characters that are played by actors that are not writers for the show have been upgraded to full cast. Previously they had been guest stars every week. That means Angela, Meredith, Kevin and a couple others are credited in the opening. The change happened as of "The Booze Cruise". Might want to consider reorganizing, althogh it could be tough. --waffle iron 22:24, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Very minor characters

March 9, 2006, 10:27 PM- Hey I added Mr. Brown to the Corporate employees list, but I don't remember if he actually works for Corporate, if not, change him to the other characters list. If anyone wants to touch it up, go ahead. I'm hoping to update with other characters like Captain Jack.

I don't think that Mr. Brown should have a space on this page because he only appeared in one episode. There are numerous people who have appeared in only one episode.
Mr. Brown was actually in two episodes. Shouldn't Gil, Oscar's partner, be added to the minor characters? He's shown up in at least three or four episodes.

List of "minor" characters

[Reposted from Talk:The Office (US) by Mrtea (talk) 22:56, 16 March 2006 (UTC)]

After two appearance these can be moved, but not before

There is little info anywhere, so I tried my best.

Actors without characters:

  • Madge — played by Karly Rothenberg — is listed on the IMDB page — the woman who works in the loading dock. Plays basketball game.
  • Mr. O'Mally(?) — played by Charlie Hartsock in Health Care — probably the company lawyer
  • ???? — played by Matt DeCaro in Basketball

Characters without Actors:

  • Some older, curly haired woman who shows up in the The Olympics award ceremony and we see her leaving the office at the end of The Fight.
  • Sherry — played by ??? — Jan's secretary (voice only)
  • Devon — played by Devon Abner — fired in the Halloween episode and takes it badly. He appears in deleted scenes from season 1; can be seen sitting at desk sometimes.
  • Pam's Mom — that is it
  • Bob Vance — played by Robert Schafer - owner of Vance Refrigeration and Phyllis’s boyfriend

Guest Stars (should we list these?):

  • Carol — played by Nancy Walls, Steve Carrell's wife — is the Real Estate agent for Michael's condo.
  • Mr. Brown — played by Larry Wilmore — the Diversity Day host.
  • Natural RedHead — played by Melinda Chilton in Sexual Harassment
  • Mark — played by Jeffrey Muller — Jim's roommate . Believes Dwight to be made up until seeing him in person at Jim's party. E-Mail Surveillance

  • Stephanie — played by Colleen Smith — Jim's roommate's girlfriend???
  • Bill — played by Ken Jeong — Asian guy; can't remember role
  • IT Tech Guy — played by Michael Naughton
  • Sensei Ira — played by Lance Krall — Dwight's Tae-kwon-do instructor

--vossman 20:01, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

  • Uncle Al is Phyllis' uncle who attends her wedding to Bob Vance. He suffers from dimentia and is booted from the reception by Dwight who believes him to be a crasher. Later on Kevin announces that Al has gone missing and his family is very worried. Later after Michael is also booted from the reception he finds Uncle Al wandering and the two chat about various things including the Boston Celtics. By finding Al, Michael gets back into Phyllis' good graces just as the reception ends. (Moved here from main page for safekeeping, should Uncle Al make a second apeparance.) -- 15:33, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Character Changes

First of all, I disagree that guest stars should be added to the minor cast section. Secondly, I've added Devon to the Other cast, because although he did not speak, he appeared in all of the episodes until he was fired. I also deleted Mr. Brown because he, again as I said before, he only appeared in one episode. If he is added, then everyone in the above list should be added (but they shouldn't be added). I renamed the Creed paragraph "Creed," instead of "Creed Bratton" because Bratton is his last name in real life, not in the show. Also, if someone really needed the paragraph on Mr. Brown for some reason, here it is:

Mr. Brown - Played by Larry Wilmore; Mr. Brown was sent by Corporate to clear up a complaint about Michael's Chris Rock impersonation which was racially insensitive. A soft spoken presenter, he gathers the staff for a Diversity Day in which they discuss racial issues in the workplace. Michael keeps interrupting Brown's talk, acting like he is running the show which onlys irritates Brown more. Brown eventually tells him to just sign a form and then he leaves. Michael finds it amusing and slightly suspicious that his last name is Brown, since he is also African-American, and Michael wonders if it is really his last name.

Kelly's last name

Is it "Kapoor" or "Kapour". In the paragraph title is is with a u, and in the picture it is with an o. If anyone knows the correct spelling, and has a good source, could you change it?

  • In response to myself, I found out. It is Kapour. The source was the "Scrute-Space" blog on the official NBC website.
Someone keeps changing her name to "Kapoor". Is there any good source on this? One "Scrute-Space" is good, but not definitive. Qutezuce 00:38, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
I opened a topic for discussion at NBC/Universal's message boards here and there are people who have sources that say "Kapour", "Kapoor" and even "Kapur". Maybe we should remove the last name pending an official source that shows her last name spelt out. --ZJH 23:56, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Brenda

Aside from "Booze Cruise," what episodes is Brenda in?

None but Jim calls her in another episode. Probably the one right after Booze Cruise. Mrtea (talk) 19:42, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
How factual is her description? She's said have been Jim's date when Abby asks Jim out, yet Abby was young enough to be included in the "Take Your Daughter To Work Day" episode. How old is Abby? Chad Hennings 07:42, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Abby is like 12. She doesn't ask Jim out on a romantic date. She just invites him to dinner (at her Mom's house) because she likes him as a friend. - Shaheenjim 15:36, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

I am maintaining a list on the Talk page strictly for removing people added to real page and for future characters. This list is not meant for inclusion in the encyclopedic page. Second I made the list like 3 months ago. --vossman 22:03, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Should famous guest star cameos be included in their own section? Or should it wait until there have been more than 2 (Conan O'Brien and Jerome Bettis)? I'm sure it will be a while before there are a few more cameos. --Nehrams2020 08:40, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
I would like to see Jerry on the main page. Not much is known about warehouse workers, but it does not mean that he is left explicitly off the show. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.209.175.115 (talk) 00:32, 16 May 2007 (UTC).

Craig

I'm removing the section on the character "Craig". Check the history if you want to read it. I suppose technically it could be seen as vandalism, but it's also a pretty funny parody of the other character descriptions on this page. --DaveR 03:09, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Craig appears to be a fairly important part of the show, even if hes only appeared once on the series so far. It tells us a lot about how Michael has been able to get away with his incompetence and unprofessionalism; namely how the Scranton branch stays at number 4 of 5 and no employees get fired (save for Devon). Craig's description does appear to be a bit too long, though I do feel it's an important note to have for the show. It makes Michael's antics appear more realistic without the viewer wondering how he does not suffer any true consequences from Corporate. -- Throw 19:22, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Bobthebuilder89 edits

I've noticed several edits by user:Bobthebuilder89 to Office pages that are either deliberate vandalism (e.g., intentionally misspelled links) or careless typos. Plus, his edit that "Darryl is also ninety percent sure that he banged the redhead girl that was in the short movie that the office saw..." is not in keeping with Wikipedia style. I've reverted many of his edits and I suggest others interested in Office pages examine any future edits he makes. --Jeremy Butler 12:30, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Ryan as a main character

How is Ryan Howard a bigger charecter than say Toby?Samnesral 18:27, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Because NBC says he is. When NBC shows the credits they have starring: 5 main chars. Also starring: everyone else. I assume he gets paid more. Things may change in the future. --User:vossman 18:52, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
He barely says a word, but he does get top billing. In the opening credits of the show, he's the fifth lead actor listed. Apparently he's going to have a more active presence in the third season. Pele Merengue 23:21, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
I understand that NBC says Ryan is a main character, but does that mean Wikipedia has to agree? Ryan didn't say a word in the most recent episode (The Coup). He just appeared silently in the background. Angela, Phyllis, Creed, Stanley, Kevin, Kelly, Jan and Roy all had speaking parts. Ryan didn't. Angela is much more of a main character than Ryan is, and she's not listed as such. DB Durham NC 13:20, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

No, we can't change it, just because we think it is better. If their name appears in the opening credits, that is what counts. Besides, there is an ep coming up then is about him and Dwight.

Let's also spell the actor's name J.B. Vakno. BabuBhatt 23:30, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

To emphasise, while I think it's silly and weird that Ryan is a main chracter, the Office home page would also seem to support the fact. He's one of the five name tags that decorate the top of the page, joining the other for obvious main characters. I don't get it, but it would seem he's supposed to be one.

Stamford Employees

I added a seperate section for Stamford people (Josh Porter, Andy, and Rashida Jones' character). They will all be recurring so there wasn't a need to pu them in the list above of all guest stars. Also Jones' character is not yet named but it will be so don't delete that.

Jones' character, though not mentioned by name by any of the characters, was shown on a nameplate on her desk. I edited her section to show this information. Chad Hennings 10:24, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

5 Main Characters pictures

Why doesn't someone make the 5 main characters pictures... Michael, Dwight, Pam, Jim and Ryan ... have the same promo pictures that are used for Kevin, Angela, Oscar, etc..?

Dwight and pam have one but I haven't found Michael, Jim, and Ryan for some reason.Puppet125 23:03, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Does anyone think Roy's article should be cleaned up to make it less POV? I know he's unpopular because he stands in the way of Jim and Pam, but they should try making it more balanced. [1]--DrBat 22:03, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Jim's Job Title

Caps from The Initiation show Jim's nameplate reading "Jim Halpert, Asst. Regional Manager," and he was at the Convention, which was (according to Angela) managers only.

Should we change Jim's job title, or wait & see if it's formally mentioned on the show?

Well, with the move back to Scranton, his title is now "Number Two", at least that's how he's always been referred to on the show. I haven't noticed a nameplate/business card/dialogue that identifies him as ARM or anything other than '#2'. But everybody seems to believe that he's ARM so I'll go with the flow. -- Raymondc0 01:33, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Considering Michael and Jim more or less stated that both "Assistant to the Regional manager" and "Assistant Regional Manager" didn't necessarily mean anything when it applied to Dwight, my theory is that, yes, Jim's new title involves the word "Manager" in some fashion. However, it is not necessarily specifically "Assistant Regional Manager". -- Viewdrix 02:16, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Update: In the article about The Office in the Wired April issue (15.04), they refer to Jim as the Assistant Regional Manager. -- Viewdrix 19:50, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Nees less fancruft, more references

I just finished a pass through several of the main characters, attempting to reduce fancruft (see Wikipedia:Notability (fiction)) and provide references in the form of either specific episodes or an authoritative source such as the show's official website. There's plenty of room for improvement in both my work and in the charcter summaries I didn't have time to try to improve. 72.244.206.229 09:43, 11 November 2006 (UTC).

Supporting character ready for their own pages?

I think it is time for the supporting charcaters (basically everyone with an "official" photo) to have their own page, as the ones here are getting long. Also we can severly shorten the descriptions for the Michael, Dwight, Jim, Pam, and Ryan to only a couple sentences and leave the rest to their own page.Puppet125 04:17, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I agree. Shouldn't we have the offical photos for the main characters as well? Dwight and Pam already have their offical ones. Also, in which episode does Creed say he milks the Canadian welfare system?- JustPhil  16:28, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Actually I think Michael and Jim have ones too. I'll start doing them. Also when they are all up, I want to have different sections for their character development, so each season is a different section (see Creed's page).Puppet125 23:22, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

"Carole" vs. "Carol"

Watching the season two DVD's, and noticed that, at least in "Office Olympics", Nancy Walls is credited as "Carol", without the e on the end of the name. Are there any episodes that list it differently, was there some official source that caused Wikipedia to go with "Carole", or was it considered an issue never officially addressed and thus it was more or less a consensus thing amongst Wiki users? -- Viewdrix 04:05, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

On the official website, she is called "Carole," but in press releases, she is called "Carol." --154.20.217.225 08:01, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Table of contents

We need to do something about the table of contents. While it is a nice idea that we have the pictures alternate from left and right, Dwight's picture is pushing down his section. Could we do something like a customized table or something?

Also, in a past comment when I asked when Creed says he lives in Canada, it's in a deleted scene from "The Coup", to anyone who doesn't know.- JustPhil  14:54, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I believe we should get rid of the descriptions on this page, that is what I am making the seperate pages for. Except for the minor characters who don't have enough info yet, I am asking to remove the content.Puppet125 16:38, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Creed Edit

I recently (as in minutes ago) added info to Creed Bratton's paragraph. In the episode "Gay Witch Hunt", he says he may have had gay sex during his rock career. It was deleted because I deleted content from the paragraph, which isn't true.

Anonymous "I'll register eventually" user

That was an automated bot. It probably reverted it because it recognizes the term "gay sex" as vandalism. I added it back, and also added some clarification so it doesn't look so much like vandalism. Wavy G 22:56, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

On Wikipedia alone, I've seen Hannah (a Stamford employee)'s last name spelled like Smoterich-Barr, Smotrich-Barr, and Smoteridge-Barr. Is there any source that we can use to determine the "real" spelling? 66.41.213.24 17:20, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

That's the show's fault. They spelled the name differently from episode to episode. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wavy G (talkcontribs) 23:23, 16 December 2006 (UTC).

I know that closed captioning for her first appearance ("The Merger") has "Smoteridge", and I think that is the most logical spelling anyway. --Nate811

Proposals for other minor characters

Leo and Gino are fairly notable, but only in the deleted scenes. they hit on pam and it is found to be their joint in the parking lot. any thoughts Skhatri2005 08:12, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Should we mention Jan's colleague Alan even though he never appears? Alan and the board determined that a branch must close ("Pilot"). He and Jan are jointly responsible for Michael's performance review ("Performance Review") and together created the employee incentive program ("Hot Girl"). I think it's too soon yet. -- Raymondc0 03:44, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

He seems bound to appear eventually. Probably should wait until then. -- Viewdrix 19:17, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Was Alan the one in the deleted scene from "back from vacation" that was asking Jan where she went while he was looking at the picture on his screen? Skhatri2005 00:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Angela

Has anyone else noticed that Angela is called "Andrea" by Creed ("Andrea's...the office bitch. You'll get used to her," said to Meridith as if she was completely new to the office) in The Convention and "Amanda" by, I believe, Jim in a much earlier episode? What's up with that? Mac OS X 01:32, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Did he? I didn't catch that, but that's kind of part of his character. He forgets everything. Read the article on Creed; it should explain everything. Wavy G 17:38, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Andy

I have not seen Andy since Michael told him off. Is he still employed? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Spikelee (talkcontribs) 06:12, 15 February 2007 (UTC).

Yep and he should return in April, I think Ed Helms (the actor who plays Andy) was move to L.A. so he's still employed.

Marjorie

I was watching "The Fire" episode and noticed there is a character named Marjorie (sp?), mentioned only once when Michael or Dwight (iforget who) is deciding on a head-count number for Ryan. He says something about number ??, Marjorie isn't here today. How should she be mentioned in the article, if she deserves to be mentioned? talk to J Klein 17:42, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I think i know what your talking about, but i believe that he said Meredeth. But we should double check. YaanchSpeak! 03:39, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Just while reading the page (and not remembering if he said Marjorie or Meredeth) - if its the former, is it possible "Madge" (from the warehouse) is short for Marjorie? Although Meredith would make more sense - because there are actually about 14 main characters before the Warehouse people. - A.J. 03:25, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Marjorie is the middle aged grey haired woman who sits in the annex of the office. They rarely ever show her and she has never had a speaking part.

Multiple Character Pages?

Why do the characters from the Office have multiple pages? They have a space on this page and most of them have their own pages with more information. i.e. Phyllis Vance. Maybe this page should be limited to minor characters and all major characters have their own page. Responses? YaanchSpeak! 03:41, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Also, why do links saying Phyllis Lapin (i.e. on the main office page) go to this page? Shouldn't it go to her page? (i know im using her as an example alot, but whatever shes pretty cool) YaanchSpeak! 03:48, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

The links to this page from Phyllis were made before her character's page existed. Those links should be changed. This page is intended as an overview character page to give the reader a glance at the characters that make up The Office. BabuBhatt 04:01, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
I'm slowly cleaning up the triple-coverage of the characters. See discussion on the main "The Office" page. -- Raymondc0 09:24, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Why is there a Relationships section?

Relationships aren't characters. Individual relationships can be discussed on the respective characters' pages. Neither Lost nor Battlestar Galactica (2004) has a Relationships section on their "list of characters" pages. If we're going to keep it, we should at least do some editing work so it doesn't look like some notes taken on a napkin. -- Raymondc0 10:42, 2 March 2007 (UTC) Bold text

  • I think the relationships are important to the characters, and a quick reference is a handy guide for readers. It should be there. I'm not sure what BSG or Lost's pages would have to do with this one. If there different why does that make them better? I would agree it could be more presentable, though.

Jan Levinson-Gould?

On the list of characters, Phyllis is listed as "Phyllis Lapin" and later, in the "change of status" section, is listed as "Phyllis Vance" with the explanation that she got married. Shouldn't the same apply to Jan (except oppposite, since she got divorced)? "Jan Levinson-Gould" on the character list, and then "Jan Levinson" in the "change of status" section? (Especially since the list of characters specifies that the descriptions describe the characters' status at the beginning of the series).

I'm going to change it (being bold), but if anyone disagrees, let me know. Soojmagooj 13:57, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Roy Anderson as a former employee

Shouldn't Roy Anderson be included with the former employees of Dunder Mifflin? It was clearly stated in the episode "The Negotiation" that he was fired. Even if his character returned for some reason he would still be considered a former employee. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.246.130.102 (talk) 14:33, 13 May 2007 (UTC).

That would be a major spoiler and therefore should not be revealed before the spoiler marker. -- Raymondc0 13:54, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Since this kind of situation has been brought up before (by yours truly), perhaps we should move the former employees section after the spoiler marker. When you think about it, they're all spoilers in a sense...and by the way, there is no spoiler marker. --RremundO 02:17, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Why is it "Characters from The Office" and not "Characters from The Office (US)?"

Was there consensus on this somewhere or what's the deal? Not that it really matters or anything, but it's kind of culturally biased --Rubber cat 03:14, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Why the detail on the characters' cars?

Why are the cars owned by the characters mentioned? They are not relevant to the plot or character development of the show (except Michael who keeps mentioning his Sebring and perhaps in the one episode in which Pam's new car is mentioned and in the latter case, the make and model of the car are not made relevant). It seems like minutiae. Acsenray 21:14, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Aside from the Sebring, the characters' cars are not significant. I figured somebody is obsessed with cars and wants to share. So much for "not an indiscriminate collection of information." -- Raymondc0 00:10, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Dunder Mifflin

I am going through several articles and changing instances of "Dunder-Mifflin" to "Dunder Mifflin" (no hyphen) as it is the proper "spelling" of the company name (see Talk page at Dunder Mifflin). Just leaving a note to say that I've gone through this page. :) Fieryrogue 20:10, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Spoilers?

Why is Ryan Howard listed as the Corporate Manager before the Spoiler mark? If the list is supposed to be current, Roy and Jan should be left off the list of employees.

Someone changed it and you saw it before it was changed back. -- Viewdrix 00:02, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Really, really minor characters

It seems like some of these characters are so minor that they shouldn't even be on the page. The "characters mentioned in passing" is a good example - another would be characters who have only appeared in one episode, as they aren't really relevant to what the series is about or why it's important. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information - I think that unless a character has had a speaking part in more than one episode, they should not be included here. That would intensely improve the readability of the article, in my opinion. (Besides, how many very minor characters have had more screen time than some of the characters listed here - to name some examples, the Benihana waitresses, [A Benihana Christmas], Gordon the Ben Franklin impersonator [Ben Franklin], Elizabeth the stripper [Ben Franklin], the vodka salesman [Christmas Party], Jim's roommate Mark [E-mail Surveillance]... I could go on.) - Chardish 03:59, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

I went ahead and removed the "Characters Mentioned In Passing" section, as it seems pretty silly to include in the article characters who have never appeared on the show and are simply nothing more than proper names used to fill a joke. If there were ongoing jokes or references made to a particular character, I could understand the inclusion (such as Maris Crane from Frasier), but I don't think the writers or producers would consider any of the people there listed to be "characters." I think it's kind of obvious that "Characters from The Office" means characters who have appeared in the show. - Chardish 22:24, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

I agree that "characters mentioned in passing" counts as "indiscriminate information". None of the characters listed therein are significant in any way. -- Raymondc0 05:12, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I removed that section (again.) I also think we should remove the people without a speaking part in more than one episode. By my tally, that's:

  • Craig
  • Dan Gore
  • Brenda Matlow
  • Sherry
  • Grace
  • Kendall
  • Billy Merchant
  • Mose Schrute
  • Stacy
  • Hank Tate

-Chardish 04:13, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Billy Merchant had speaking parts in at least The Injury and Casino Night. I think maybe Phyllis' Wedding, too. Or not. -- Viewdrix 22:38, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
I know Billy Merchant was present at Casino Night (Michael makes a joke about "the handicapped"), but I'm pretty sure he didn't say anything. - Chardish 22:56, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
I stand corrected. I'll restore his section. - Chardish 22:58, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
"But I'm pretty sure he didn't say anything"...He did say something, he told Michael his girlfriend was never his nurse. --RremundO 02:20, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to nominate Mose for a Minor Character listing -- he doesn't qualify for the above criterion, because he hasn't had a "speaking part" in more than one episode, but then, he may not speak at all. He has appeared in at least two episodes ("The Initiation" and "Money"), and was a pretty memorable presence both times. He is mentioned frequently by Dwight and is, arguably, a more significant and memorable figure than, say, the much-disputed Mr. Brown. writingjen 16:00, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Should it not be List of characters from The Office (US) in line with WP:NC and such articles as List of Doctor Who supporting characters? --Harris 12:44, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

This article has been renamed from Characters from The Office to Characters from The Office (US) as the result of a move request. Discussion on adding "list of" should be carried out in concert with Characters from The Office (UK). --Stemonitis 09:25, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Mr. Brown

Mr. Brown is not a Dunder Mifflin corporate employee, he is an outside consultant who works with Diversity Today.

Besides, he insulted them, and abandoned them, I wouldn't call that diversity training.--RremundO 15:07, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Dan Gore

I realized Dan Gore has been deleted. Why did this happen? He's had enough screen time, and with his new scene in "Launch Party," the writers haven't forgotten him —Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.20.11.116 (talk) 20:07, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

The Mystery of Hank Tate

The template: TheOfficeCharacters has a link for Hank Tate under Miscellaneous characters. His link leads to this page but this page has nothing about Hank Tate. Does anyone know anything about a Hank Tate? YaanchSpeak! 21:38, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

He is an office park security guard, seen in The Fight --RremundO (talk) 20:39, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Do we know for certain that Phyllis took the last name "Vance"?

It's very likely that this is the case, but I was wondering if there was an episode that specified that she didn't keep her maiden name. - Chardish 04:32, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

She went hyphenated according to this article. -- Raymondc0 (talk) 21:59, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
