Flag Icons

Added a better flag icon for the available games and their regions. Please use this for all released WiFi game when the time comes. The other photo of the flag just looked like a red dot on the background. If you don't like it then you may change it back. Nickm717 13:55, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

That is a better flag icon. The Japanese flag needs a border so it doesn't blend in and look like just a red dot. I will change this on the List of Nintendo DS Wi-Fi Connection games later today, if no one does it before me. Zomic_13 14:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Blazing angels

Box art

Is box art really worthwhile on this page? I can see why it would be on the DS page, DS boxes are small and you can make it out on a picture that size, but Wii boxes are bigger, and while only one is on there so far, i can barely make out the box art. Having the box arts, even if they are on the small side, provides more information to the user. If the user does want to see the box art in detail, all he or she would have to do is click on the image to view a larger version. Zomic_13 23:28, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

The Bigs?

Didn't Nintendo say they weren't releasing online dev-kits until later? I realise that it says that there will be online, but The Bigs is going to be multi-platform, so that might just apply to some/all of the other versions. Plus, its going to be released in Summer, 2007, which would mean that they would've given 2K Sports the dev-kit a while ago. I don't know, I've just got a feeling that it won't have Wi-fi online in the Wii version. Cloud789 02:27, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

The information on the online dev kits is unreliable. nintendo have said nothing official, but some developers are saying they havent got them, some are saying they have, but as long as their is a valid source to say this game is online, it should stay on here Mattyatty 18:23, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

As far as online dev-kits go, IGN claims "in the next six months you're going to start seeing a wave of third party games that take Wii online, too. Developers have had the online SDK for months now and the next wave of titles will incorporate it." http://wii.ign.com/articles/772/772881p1.html Perhaps The Bigs won't end up with online, but it certainly cannot be ruled out, and it belongs on the list for now.

Elebits

No. This is a List of Wi-Fi Connection games. Elebits does not use the Wi-Fi Connection. It utilizes WiiConnect24 which is different. Zomic_13 20:40, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

No. The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is for playing games in real time against other people. WiiConnect24 is more of a download service. Kinda the difference between IM and Email. I agree with your distinction between WiiConnect24 and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. But there is a problem in that several of the games on this list do not offer "playing games in real time against other people." Several games, such as Geometry Wars and Trauma Center simply have online leaderboards. Do they belong on this list? Or should there be another article with all Wii games that feature internet connectivity and have three different sections (Downloads, Leaderboards, Multiplayer)?Palomo1 01:42, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

The statement is just a generalization. It doesn't matter if a game uses the Wi-Fi Connection, but doesn't offer real-time play against other people. Plenty of DS games don't. It is up for Nintendo and video game developers to how the services are used, not us. Zomic_13 02:18, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

MySims

I added MySims to the list of upcoming games as a result of Matt Casamassina's (from IGN) Mailbag Q&A that can be found here -->[1]
The person who sent in the question states that he or she saw a display box at EBgames with the Wi-Fi logo on it and on the back it described how you could travel online. Matt responded by saying he had interviewed the developer and the developer responded by making it clear that they are exploring an online component, but stopped short of confirming.
For this reason, as well as some other details released in his response, I feel there is enough to warrant adding the game to the list, especially since it appears to have more supporting evidence than "The Bigs" which is also listed. Zomic_13 04:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

In Matt-IGN's latest blog entry he remarks how he has known about this game for a while and is excited that it has finally been revealed. See here: [2]. In his post he happens to mention online play. Now this is certainly not official confirmation and it could mean just online for the DS or vice versa, but it is something to look out for. Zomic_13 03:43, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Merge?

Hey there

Based upon various suggestions, I've begun work on a Comparison of Wii games which lists the Wii titles and gives additional info such as Widescreen settings, controllers used, multiplayer, and online functions that couldn't be added to the current List of Wii games as it would become too cluttered.

At the moment there's a number of different lists for this, but I believe that a single, comprehensive list will make it easier for readers to learn more about Wii games as well as for editors to collaborate and edit. Oppose - I oppose this for several reasons. For one, online functionality is a notable enough feature to deserve its own list (unlike List of widescreen Wii games which should be merged). Super Smash Bros. Brawl

For some reason, members continue to post Super Smash Bros. Brawl on this list. Let me make it perfectly clear: online play for Brawl was never confirmed anywhere. Please do not add it back to this list. Also, a source is meant to be just that. I directed you to read that article specifically, because it is written how you are thinking right now - that there must not be any online play despite previous confirmations, because we have not heard about online play details. Just as the last part of that article states, online play was announced when the game was announced, but just because we haven't heard anything recently doesn't mean that online play is no longer being developed. Red Steel 2?

Well I believe that Ubisoft posted a job offering for the game. [10] But they haven't said anything about it actually being on the Wii or even being online. I believe that it should be removed from the list. Oh and I found [11] article which states that it was announced at Cannes but hasn't been officially confirmed. Re-merge 3rd party Wi-Fi games?

Merge this list and List of Wii games using WiiConnect24

I think this list and List of Wii games using WiiConnect24 should be merged, I realize the distinction made earlier in this talk page between playing people online, and using other online stuff. I just think it is more user friendly and easier to maintain to have a single list telling which Wii games use online functions and what they do. As Wii online stuff becomes more established, these lists are just going to be duplicates. --Cloveious 11:48, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Strongly Opppose - They are two distinctly separate online services that do different things and have different setups. It would be wrong to merge them. Also, its doubtful that they will become duplicates - as it stands right now there is a combined 38 games on both lists, but only one game is featured on both lists. -Zomic13 15:01, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Neutral, as long as the differences are stated up front - I initially had supported this, but after clarifying the introduction to better inform the users of the differences, I don't know. It's probably good as is, only if the difference is clarified and stated at the beginning (I'm fixing this). The differences must be stated to avoid confusion: WFC uses external (Nintendo's) servers for things like online play and leaderboards, while WiiConnect24 is a console-to-console system of interaction.

The only problem are games with a gray area. My support example was "Blastworks: Build, Trade, Destroy" - against something like leaderboards. It is listed in the WiiConnect24 list, but not on here. While it is just basically for level sharing (a typical WiiConnect24-type feature I guess), it actually uses WFC in that transfer, and not WiiConnect24. It even has Nintendo's WFC Blue Seal on it's cover!

In summary, there are basically three categories IMO:

1) Games that uses the WiiConnect24 console-to-console system

2) Games that use Nintendo WFC for everything but online play (leaderboards, DLC, etc)

3) Games that offer online play through Nintendo WFC

While the little O(n) designation is nice on this list, IMO, I don't think it is enough seperation of #2 & #3, if we have seperate pages for WFC & WiiConnect24. I'd support seperation of those games within this page itself.

Mark online play games

It seems useful to mark those games that actually offer online play via Wi-Fi versus those that just are able to get data. Trauma Center: New Blood, for example, does not offer online play, but simply to compare scores. I propose there simply be an additional column that either denotes online play or a code which could relate to various wi-fi usage descriptions such as: 'MP' - muliplayer (e.g. Guitar Hero), 'S' - scores ( e.g. Trauma Center ), 'C' - Credit exchange ( e.g. Metroid ), etc. Flamesplash (talk) 20:41, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

I like the system, but some tables use commas to separate these letters while the large table does not. I think it would be best to add commas to the main table. This would be more consistent and help users avoid misreading D S (downloadable content and score sharing) as DS (Interacts with DS). Rockman057 (talk) 04:55, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

FFCC: My Life As A King? (not accurate)

This game does not use any wi-fi in itself. Only the add-on menu. So there should be a seperate list for titles that use Wi-Fi connection Pay and Play. Animal Crossing and Battalion 4

I fixed the table in the first section that has been messed up for a while. Animal Crossing and Battalion 4 came off the list, but I couldn't tell from the history if they were previously deleted or if that was what caused the table to get messed up in the first place. Timesplitters 4

I've seen Timesplitters 4 listed as one of the 'upcoming titles' that will support online play. While I don't think that it will never come out (even though Free Radical are currently under administration), I haven't seen any indication that it will support online play if released. Ratings

I think it would be good to add a column for Metacritic/GameRanking scores. The reason is that this page is very useful to gamers looking for online games, and having the score helps. Flags for availability

I have noticed that the US flag is being used in order to convey that a game is available in North America. I don't know if this usage is accurate or NPOV, as these games are also available in the rest of North America. I think it would be a good idea, if we remove all the flags and replace them with region shorthand (AUS, EU, JP, KO, and NA). Anyone else agree? Thegreyanomaly (talk) 23:17, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Monster Hunter Tri's online playablity WFC-supported?
