Featured List Failed

Well, the featured list nomination failed even though all the issues raised by people who opposed were addressed and corrected, but only two reversed their opposition to support. The others probably did not have the page on watch and so they didn't see that their issues were dealt with. Hopefully, it will pass next time, though! --AutoGyro 16:06, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

"Shin Lupin"

We really ought to stop calling this show "Shin Lupin III." "Shin" is nowhere in the title. "Shin (New) Lupin III" was a nickname for the series made by fans. It was never officially called as such. In fact, the official Japanese name is "Lupin III." Just look at the title cards for the series...they all just say simply "Rupan Sansei" ("Lupin the Third"). Even if it were called "Shin Lupin," shouldn't we call it "New Lupin III" or "The New Lupin III?" It's not exactly a difficult or lossy translation from the Japanese.

The official International English title for the series is "Lupin the Third Part II" (also "...Part 2"). This is to help distinguish it from the First Series/Part I and the otherwise confusingly titled Third Series, "...Part III." There are other official English titles, but they are varied. For example, the first DVD box called it "LUPIN THE THIRD second.tv" (with Part I being "...first.tv"). But again, it's inconsistent. Other releases have called it "Lupin the Third (The) Second TV Series." The only consistent English title across all American releases (at least, in the fine print) is "Lupin the Third Part II." (If links and images are needed to prove this, I can provide some later.)

I'm the user who proposed the merger. Why the breakup by seasons?

Lupin the Third Part II does not have "seasons" in a traditional sense. There are indeed hypothetical divisions you could make based on changes in opening and closing themes. And certainly, shows like Bleach have been sold as "seasons" despite airing constantly for _ years straight without natural divisions in broadcast. However, it's never been broken into seasons in any official or licensed publications (examples include the Lupin the Third Perfect Book 1 or 2, Kinema Junpo's The Rupan Sansei Files, Animage's Cagliostro Castle Request Book [1983], and the list goes on). It's always been listed strictly by basic episode number. Also, no Japanese commercial release—to the best of my knowledge—has ever broken them down into "seasons." This "seasonal" breakdown makes looking up proper episode numbers on sites like IMDb a real hassle, because their numbers are useless for navigating import DVDs. And last but not least, even the cited source for the episode titles and numbers doesn't even section the episodes off into 4 seasons, rather into chunks of 3 (and are not called seasons even there, rather "packs" which can be rented for 3 weeks at a time). This all seems like a fan-promoted idea that someone latched onto and everyone just ran with it. LupintheThird (talk) 21:30, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

It's less a fan-promoted idea and more likely that it was split for length. Once you add summaries, 150 episodes will be a very long page. As with other lists (like Bleach for example) the "main list" is made by extracting specific fields from the sublists, which also means that any corrections to those fields are automatically updated here but also means that you can't have this page be an unbroken list of episodes. Personally I think this is WP:OR to split by theme song, because seasons can have multiple songs and the Japanese use a 13 episode system "cours" system compared to say, a typical American 24/26 episode "season", but thats simply how the project has handled them. It's an old way of handling long series, and not a very good one but at the same time, it is a defined way to do it. That doesn't mean it can't be challenged, but it affects more than this set of articles. There are a couple of possibilities, and this is a good excuse to raise the issue with the project, which I'll do later.SephyTheThird (talk) 04:25, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
