Source of bullies' motives?
editFor the profiles of the girls that bully Hiroko, there are statements in almost all four of the girls' profiles that say why they started bullying Hiro: jealousy, low self-esteem, etc. I've read all of the manga and seen all of the anime - where is the source of this info? The series doesn't once explain why each of the bullies decided to harass Hiro. Can anyone tell me where that information came from? --Selo12394 20:03, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- The reason for harassing Hiro seems to be about her grades - that's all I can tell. EDIT: As for Miyoko, she seems unwilling to participate due to her lateness (And therefore that led to her being beaten) WhisperToMe
- It could be about her grades, but that's never stated in the series. It could be anything with those four girls - maybe they have a past beef with Hiroko, or couldn't find anyone else to pick on or something. I just want to make sure all the info is accurate. [EDIT:] Hmm... Mihaya Ozaki, at least, seems to have been friends with Hiroko in the past. Part of a photograph of them smiling and laughing together is shown in the manga once, but I don't know if they were really friends or if Mihaya forced Hiroko to take that picture with her. --Selo12394 21:59, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
More Images Added
editI've added the best images I could find of the characters Shoko Fukuyama and Takaya Mizushima. I plan to put more up, including Tatsumi Miyako and Aki Sato. --Selo12394 13:55, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Never mind, WhisperToMe handled Tatsumi and Sato's images. Now I've put up a pic of Ishida and some more information on him. --Selo12394 14:07, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Quite a big edit
editI've changed the introduction to:
- This is a profile of characters from Shadow Star (Narutaru) and events in which they are involved.
This is more encyclopedic and professional than the Usenet-ish "spoiler" warnings in text and tags, and conveys the same information.
Non-free images
editI've removed the gallery non-free images because such galleries are regarded as decorative in nature and are not permitted by our Non-free content guideline. --Tony Sidaway 16:12, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
I dispute the interpretation of the following: "Non-free media is not used unless it contributes significantly to an article. It needs to significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic in a way that words alone cannot. The use of non-free media in lists, galleries, and navigational and user-interface elements is normally regarded as merely decorative, and is thus unacceptable."
In the case of fictional characters in comic books and television shows, visual characteristics are not easily expressed in words. If there is a consensus that the specific instance is against WP:FU, I will accept the removal of the images. WhisperToMe 21:04, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, now I understand what you were saying on my talk page. Okay, well restore the, if you like, and I'll have a chat with some more people and see if they think it's okay. --Tony Sidaway 23:03, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- That's fine - Please be sure to let them post on this talk page :) WhisperToMe 23:35, 30 June 2007 (UTC).
- The use of NFC should not be used in list, if a character is notable they should have their own article, if not they are not notable enough for a picture. βcommand 02:53, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- "if not they are not notable enough for a picture. " Where does it say this? Is this your opinion or is this a consensus policy established somewhere? WhisperToMe 03:01, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Please note WP:NFCC # 3 and 8. Per several discussions about 6 months ago on AN and ANI NFC is not allowed in "list of.." type articles. βcommand 04:39, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

I assert that this does not violate minimal usage because it is at most two images per character, with one medium per image. There are many characters discussed in the article, and I have not found a discussion that concluded that characters within a list article may not have pictures. Also, I want a link to the discussion six months ago; since you are using the discussion six months ago as a rationale for your decision, you need to provide a link to the discussion. WhisperToMe 05:22, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Now, I will state that images showing several characters at once exist. Maybe it may be good to use one of those pictures to represent some characters and then keep individual images for characters not in the pictures. WhisperToMe 05:25, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Betacommand appears to be referring to this: Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2007-05-07/Fair use
I say that there is a difference between what is on the signpost and what Betacommand is describing. I feel that there is not a need to have thumbnail images of episodes (since any image from the given episode may be used to represent the episode), but with characters there is one consistent design and the character is used throughout the series. WhisperToMe 05:36, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Now I have the proof that images in character lists are frowned upon: User:Durin/Fair use overuse explanation. Since composite images of Shadow Star characters exist, I will consolidate character images in order to comply with fair use. WhisperToMe 05:58, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, bummer... fair use rationale has been added for several of the images, though, and I will try and work on more later. If we can speak with Betacommand or the other mods over the image deal, maybe we can recover them, but it doesn't seem likely given the hassle they've given us for the past few months. And here is a list of the images with updated rationale now, for future reference.
- Shiina Tamai
- Shunji Tamai
- Hoshimaru
- Akira Sakura
- Aki Honda
- Tatsumi Miyako
- Misono Tamai
- Takaya Mizushima
- Ishida
- Otohime
- Shoko Fukayama
- Jyun Ezumi
- I will work on more later and update the list as I do. If any of you contribute more to other images, namely stating that the copyright belongs to Kitoh and Kodansha, please add it to this list. --Selo12394 01:29, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
