List structure, content

Why are alumni and students separated? As far as I know, the notable students have all graduated... what makes them not alumni?

Should "noted current faculty" be repeated in "notable teachers?"

The problem is, not all of the "Noted Alumni" are graduates. To list two right off the top of my head, both Robin Williams and Lady Gaga never finished at Juilliard, Lady Gaga never even actually attended. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.222.168.132 (talk) 10:44, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

I that's one of the greatest problems of wikipedia. Why are they listed? Why are there articles about non-notable persons? Some people don't understand that Wikipedia aims to be an encyclopedia and that not every person, not every professional musician graduated from a good music school and active in the music profession has a place here.--Karljoos (talk) 08:10, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Order

Is there a good reason why they're listed alphabetically by given name rather than surname? In any list of names other than Wikipedia's internal lists (which are treated as a text stream), it's surely the surname that's the most important element of the name. -- JackofOz (talk) 01:50, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey, but were is Nathaniel Anthony Ayers?? He diserves to be in this list, he´s got an incredible story, and he´s subject of many columns, a book and a movie. Alumni without an article

I suggest that only alumni with a Wikipedia article are included in the list. This is a list of NOTABLE ALUMNI, and if a former student is not notable enough for an article then is also not notable for this list.--Karljoos (talk) 14:46, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Some notable alumni could just not have articles yet, and I could see a case being made for some persons of marginal notability being worth noting in this list, even if a separate article is not called for; so I hate to see that as a hard-and-fast criterion. But you're right, the lack of criteria 1) leads to completely unnotable alumni being included; and 2) makes it a good breeding ground for vandalism or misinformation.

I think that any alumnus with sufficient notability to merit an article merits an entry here. I would suggest that, to be included, a name should either 1) point to an article on the individual (or on a small group with which the individual is closely associated; the Ahn Trio article is an example here); or 2) be supported by a footnote pointing to a reliable source showing both the Juilliard connection and some degree of notability. David L Cook citation

I have my suspicions about David L Cook ever going to Julliard. His own webpage doesn't acknowledge it and neither does his Wikipedia article. In fact the only place I can find that says that he's ever been to Julliard is the Wikipedia page that lists alumni. Can someone find a link to verify this?

Fictional people

So there's a new subsection "fictional people". Because Juilliard is the best-known well-known school of its type, hundreds of films, books, TV shows and stories feature someone who wants to go to Juilliard, claims went to Juilliard. Katherine Thomas AKA "The Great Kat"

Katherine Thomas AKA "The Great Kat" is listed with a citation as an interview with herself. From my understanding there is no record of her ever attending. Can this be fixed with actual proof or deleted?? 67.253.99.254 (talk)DieUberMensch (talk)

I'll look for sourcing better to your liking. I'm curious as to where your "understanding" comes from... Do you have a source for this claim?

sourcing an interview with her is not a reliable source. I'd not say I'm accusing her of lying, but with all that I've found so far I will question her "facts". Hello! In my opinion, I think the music category will be the best, since she performed frequently with notable musicians with organ and piano. I'm a little hesitant because she is the head of music at Hawaii Opera Theatre, but considering that there are more information in a position of a musician (what she performed, who she performed with, etc.) I think the music category will be okay. Faubion Bowers

Someone wrote to Wikimedia suggesting that Faubion Bowers should be added. I think that makes sense but I don't know which section.--S Philbrick(Talk) 14:28, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

In the music division, as a piano student. He wrote extensively on Scriabin, and when he mentions the Juilliard School in his biography of that composer, it's in the context of Scriabin's tenth piano sonata.
