Contradict edit

The table figures does not match with the reference figures, either the table is old or the intial post was messed up

The data and the table are not matching e.g west bengal SDP by 2004-2005 is 206881 units which is more than 202575 units by andhra though the list puts andhra ahead of wb. Jeroje 17:05, 18 July 2007 (UTC)jerojeReply

For West Bengal for 2004-2005 the SDP is 208578
for Andhra Pradesh for 2004-2005 the SDP is 210449
So Andhra Pradesh is ahead of West Bengal.

Andhra Pradesh achieved annual economic growth rate of 10.37 percent against the national growth rate of 8.7 percent for fiscal 2007-08.("Bengali rasgulla ki jali",2008,IANS)

andhra was never ahead of west bengal the rank was maharastra tops with uttar pradesh 2nd and west bengal third and these figures are of 2006 validations not 2004 ..andhra pradesh never got such growth its gone with telangana violence all industries pulling out of andhra pradesh and the state is sinking to a dark future —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.194.37.210 (talk) 10:26, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be some more contradiction in the data present itself. On comparing the first two tables, it seems that the GDP of Mumbai is greater than that of Maharashtra. According to what is mentioned the first table presents the "Nominal GDP". However, it is not clear which GDP data is presented in second table. Assuming, the first table is really presenting the 'Nominal GDP', the GDP of Mumbai from second table cannot be larger than that of Maharashtra, irrespective of which GDP it is (since the Nominal GDP will always be the higher due to significant inflation rate in India). The different year for which data is provided also cannot be the reason to justify the figures as Indian economy is growing so the GDP of Mumbai cannot decrease. 05:52, 11 December 2011 (UTC)akhilgoyal19 on 11 Nov, 2011 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akhilgoyal19 (talkcontribs)

I don't like the comparable country column edit

Unless the country is similar in both population and GDP per capita these comparisons are potentially misleading. There aren't enough suitable countries to match up all the states in that manner, and the column hasn't been completed anyway. Any objections to removal? Greg Grahame (talk) 21:08, 26 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree. The comparison column is misleading and undue. It should be removed.--Sodabottle (talk) 03:18, 27 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
It's also inaccurate. Kerala has a higher than average GDP per capita, and is listed as having a comparable economy to Cote d'Ivoire. However, the Indian PPP per capita is twice Cot d'Ivoire's. The entire list just seems to be nothing but a spiteful swipe at the Indian economy by westerners frightened at the thought of losing their position of dominance.98.95.220.146 (talk) 01:39, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

[1] is an entire article comparable to [2] and others by per capita and/or nominal (currency exchange rates) GDP. I am going to undo the merge since there is no interest here in having that data. --JWB (talk) 21:05, 4 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I wish there was a way to +1 this, newbie here. Someone pointed to this comparable country table in a very heated discussion and it simply doesn't make sense. Analysts are using wikipedia and assuming it to be a trustworthy source, please help me remove this section. Armybrat (talk) 13:10, 18 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Growth in GDP per capita table messed up? edit

Looks like at some point of time data went missing in "Growth in GDP per capita" section. It seems to be fine in https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Indian_states_by_GDP&oldid=596000320 Although I cannot comment if it is correct as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ch4nd4n (talkcontribs) 20:47, 19 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Help! edit

I'm trying to fill in the 2012-13, 2013-14, and 2014-15 tables in the Nominal GSDP from 2011–02 to 2020–21 section, but data for GSDP in current prices for the states of West Bengal, Manipur, Sikkim, and Tripura is unavailable in the main source, here. On the other hand, there is a second source from the NITI Aayog government website, here, that has figures for West Bengal, but this is not GSDP in current prices, but GSDP measured from a 2004-5 currency baseline. There's nothing for Manipur, Sikkim, and Tripura either. Where can I source accurate GSDP stats in current figures for these states from? Tiger7253 (talk) 20:40, 9 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Update/Modify the data for the GDP of state of WEST BENGAL 2017-18 estimate in the GSDP (nominal) chart. REASON: In the GSDP (nominal) chart, the data for GDP of state of WEST BENGAL 2017-18 estimate (ranked 6th) has been referenced at citation [9] which is not external document, rather another article in Wikipedia --> "Economy of West Bengal". This article (Economy of west bengal) again in its citation [25],[26] include 2 documents which mentions data till 2014-15, NOT 2017-18. Therefore the source of this data (GDP of West Bengal 2017-18 estimate) is ambiguous and should be modified. Anirbanonline92 (talk) 17:46, 16 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Forecast data edit

For many states the data is not real GSDP data but forecasted future data. That, obviously, is inherently error-prone because any such forecast relies on assumptions about future events (or a lack thereof). There could be natural catastrophes such as earthquakes, floods and so on that affect GSDP for one state or another. There could be man-made catastrophes, ranging from a stock market crash and global economic crisis to war. There could, conversely, be an unforeseen economic boom ahead. We don't know. We cannot know. These forecasts might also be subject to political bias: If a state government wants to engage in massive new spending, they might be tempted to produce a more rosy economic forecast to show that financing the new expeditures will not be a problem. Or they might overestimate the positive effects of their own policies. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. We should not ignore the inherent uncertainties of the forecast data and should report the GDP that has been achieved, not the GDP that is hoped will be achieved in the future. I'll check the page history for a revision that doesn't have forecast data and will revert to that. Huon (talk) 10:08, 8 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Apparetly presenting forecasts as if they were real has been a feature of this list for quite some time. I'd have to revert many months of edits to find a clean version. That seems unhelpful; I'll instead use the latest data presented by MOSPI. That table was last updated in March 2019, so we should be reasonably sure that these are indeed current figures (or at least the most current available). For the fun of it, I'll append a table showing some examples of how the forecasts as of December 2018 deviated from what MOSPI actually reports for the same time. Huon (talk) 10:59, 8 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Comparison of GSDP (nominal) 2018-19 in INR crore: Forecast vs. MOSPI

The nominal GSDP table seems to be totally wrong edit

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_states_and_union_territories_by_GDP#Nominal_GSDP_from_2011%E2%80%9312_to_2020%E2%80%9321 This table's citation shows it's taken from http://mospi.nic.in/sites/default/files/press_releases_statements/State_wise_SDP_31_07_2020_website.xls

However the data just doesn't seem to match with the source. For e.g. take Andhra Pradesh - the data matches upto 2015-2016 but beyond that it doesn't match at all. In the source I am checking SDP-Curr tab (Nominal GDP is same as GDP at Current prices)

Andra Pradesh as per the source 2016-17 - 684416 2017-18 - 793186 2018-19 - 862957 2019-20 - 972782

But if you check the Wikipedia table, it's totally different.

It's not just for Andhra Pradesh, but for every state the data for the last 3-4 years doesn't match with the source.

What am I missing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.210.147.161 (talk) 00:02, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Agree Yep, I totally Agree, And there is a lot of confusion regarding current data, People seem to be adding data on the fly citing general news articles and speculative third party sites as sources and making grand claims, We need to establish a strict and proper source here, And need to protect the page too, There seem to be a lot of people here who seem to think changing the rankings here would work wonders for their state. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KindCowboy69 (talkcontribs) 15:07, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

User:Applaused is repeatedly adding incorrect GSDP figures in the list. To be more precise, he is adding older 2018-19 figures as 2019-20 figures for some states even when correct 2019-20 figures have been released for many of them. I had recently updated the entire list as per the latest official data that was released by Government of India's Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) on 31st July 2020. User:Applaused ignorantly reverted my edits. I tried to explain about this to him in a message on his talk page but the user seems to have avoided reading the message and yet again added the same incorrect figures. This time, he also cited the same MOSPI source which I had myself cited more specifically for the aforementioned data update. This user hasn't even properly seen the figures mentioned in the MOSPI source and is adamantly adding incorrect figures. He is changing year of all figures to 2019-20 whether they're actually of 2019-20 or of 2018-19. I'll report the user for vandalism after enough warnings are given.
