Films in development edit

Given WP:CRYSTAL, specifically:

  • Individual scheduled or expected future events should be included only if the event is notable and almost certain to take place.

and

  • Wikipedia is not a collection of product announcements and rumors.

and that films "in development" aren't guaranteed to enter production, should such projects be included here if they have not entered production or have no scheduled release date? Trivialist (talk) 02:58, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry if I'm sounding like a broken record, but To: Gerard should be under the Shorts section. Ongoing article content dispute edit

I am here to address and hopefully solve an ongoing content dispute regarding the table layout on this article:

  • One side, including myself, agrees that the articles should be consistent with each other, as the Manual of Style says, and that it is easier to navigate seperate templates.
  • The other side says that it is best to have the information be combined into one big table, and saying that the other articles are "poor quality", despite the fact that the articles are not really that poor in quality and this page is of the same quality of those.

Let's solve this here before becoming pointy. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 18:22, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

I will ping those involved here: @Maxbmogs, Drmies, and ZX2006XZ: Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 18:24, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

We need it combined since we wanna know how the budget works well for DreamWorks and their films. Removing them won’t make any sense for this issue. BMA-Nation2020 (talk) 21:13, 20 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

IMDB scores are not allowed edit

The Reception table in this article is an awful eyesore, (see {{Overcolored}}) and the unnecessary colors should be removed. A much bigger problem is that it fails the core principle of Wikipedia:Verfiability and the table is not properly sourced, it isn't sourced at all, not even one reference!

A more immediate and easier to solve problem is that it includes user votes from IMDB. WP:USERGENERATED content such as audience scores from Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB are not allowed, there are fundamentally not WP:Reliable sources.
The entire IMDB scores column should be removed ASAP. -- 109.78.192.128 (talk) 23:05, 25 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please remove the table List_of_DreamWorks_Animation_productions#Critical_reception as it is entirely {{unsourced}}. (On top of that IMDB scores should not have be included even if they had been properly sourced, WP:USERGENERATED and it is an ugly {{Overcolored}} abomination.) -- 109.79.167.3 (talk) 23:35, 29 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please note Wikipedia:Verifiability is a core policy of Wikipedia. In particular it says
  • "All content must be verifiable. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material
  • "Any material lacking an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports the material may be removed and should not be restored without an inline citation"
You could chose to tag the table it as {{unsourced section}} and wait but it is unlikely to work, and I feel it absolutely necessary to remove the table until such time as editors are actually willing to provide proper references. (I tried that before with List of Blue Sky Studios productions but years later still the Rotten Tomatoes scores are not sourced, except the one reference I added as an example.) There are simply too many low quality list articles that no one seems to have any interest in properly maintaining. -- 109.79.167.3 (talk) 23:35, 29 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
I tracked down the diff the Reception table was only recently added top this article in February 2022. All the colors, none of the references. -- 109.79.72.233 (talk) 05:25, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
User:Indagate removed the IMDB scores[1] thank you.

Unsourced section should be removed edit

The table is still entirely {{unsourced}} and horribly {{overcolored}} and I still believe it would be best if it was removed, and not restored until it is reliably sourced. -- 109.79.72.233 (talk) 05:31, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Strictly follow the request format specified by the template, just in case that makes any difference. TLDR: Please remove this recently addeddiff unsourced information entirely. -- 109.78.204.188 (talk) 03:56, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Changed assessment edit

Hello everyone, I've changed the assessments on the projects to List instead of Start-class, considering it's very obviously a list "List of..." and has the WikiProject Lists linked as well. I did this since it seemed to me like an uncontroversial edit. If anyone disagrees feel free to change it again or start a discussion about it here, but please do provide arguments if you do so. ★Ama TALK CONTRIBS 19:22, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

@ZX2006XZ: edit

Hey, I noticed you undid my revision regarding the critical reception section.

While I agree in principal that we need such a section, the section as it was (and now is again) is created entirely unsourced and by a user who has an undeclared COI, I'm presently making a report to WP:COIN about this so please hold off on reverting my edit for now, if that's okay. If you'd prefer we could also add a notice pointing towards the potential COI. I'll await your response here or on my Talk page or wherever really. ★Ama TALK CONTRIBS 15:01, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well, it looks like we'll have to source the critical reception, then, instead of just removing it completely. ZX2006XZ (talk) 15:04, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@ZX2006XZ: Sourcing is probably not enough since all of the information will be dated before you know it anyway, unless you personally want to get rid of all of the manual of style disasters the section suffers from as well, I suggest leaving my edit in place. I won't edit war over it though, if you insist I'll concede to leave it like this and perhaps request RfC for further comments from other editors to establish consensus. Let me know what you think. ★Ama TALK CONTRIBS 15:25, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Indagate: Neat! ★Ama TALK CONTRIBS 19:16, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you all for improving the article. I have no objections to the section existing in principle so long as it is properly sourced, but frankly it should not have been added without sources in the first place and it was necessary to remove it completely to make this happen. I am glad to see it now has proper inline references. There are simply too many low quality poorly sourced list articles to tag them as "unsourced" and hope for the best. There are too many editors following bad examples in good faith, Wikipedia too often fails to follow its own rules, even core principles like verification. Maybe it should not be necessary to take hard line on removing unsourced content but years of unreferenced section banners and citation needed tags suggest it is necessary. WP:V is clear, the burden lies on editors who add or restore. (The fact that some editors and fans hide user scores mixed in with critic scores means that all of the Reception information especially needs to clearly verified. Why don't I help fix these list articles? I've spent time trying to improve low quality list articles before only to see them deleted anyway, and I usually direct my efforts to prose articles.) I do not see the scores being slightly out of date being a problem, scores tend not to change much anyway once they have a decent number of reviews, and so long as there are references allowing readers and editor to easily verify them. (I absolutely and unequivocally reject the overcoloring and I appreciate that it was not added again.) Thanks for making a better encyclopedia. -- 109.79.73.24 (talk) 17:07, 9 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

No producers or EP edit

This list needs to be simple. We can't add anything else from producer and Exective producers since some films didn't have some people credited as Executive producers. The list needs to only have Directors and Composers without making it like the others. This table needs to not have any producers and executive producers. Some films didn’t have any executive producers credited. It needs to be back where it belongs. BMA-Nation2020 (talk) 16:12, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Indagate @Gouleg this table feels like it’s uncomfortable for me to handle. There’s too much wide space and not every dreamworks film is executive produced. I prefer we kept the directors and composers credited and not the producers and executive producers. This credit thing is still bothering me due to logic and my Autism. BMA-Nation2020 (talk) 19:13, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I do agree with you that the current table is very cluttered right now, but try to come up with a proposal and see what other editors have to say about the table on the talk page before modifying it. However, I don't want to be involved in the Dreamworks table this time as I was with the Illumination table -Gouleg🛋️ harass/hound 19:38, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Based on what's notable enough for infoboxes of individual films, executive prouducer and animation service columns seem unnecessary. Should have a writer column as they are important part of film production, 2nd top field in infoboxes of individual films. Indagate (talk) 21:17, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
animation services are neesscairy. not every film is animated by DreamWorks. but i arrge with the EP thing. the writer column would be tricky. BMA-Nation2020 (talk) 23:07, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Why are animation services necessary to note in this table if not necessary to note in infoboxes?
Also, why would writer column be tricky? New column after director same as Illumination. If space is concern, then remove animation services, then if more space needed remove composer or distribuor. Indagate (talk) 06:53, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
nvm. I managed to make a new table for director, producer and writer. Keeping composers and distrubtors with the companys that helped maked the films possible. I did as you asked and improved it. Some dreamworks films have songs invovled from Prince of Egypt to El Dorado to Over the Hedge. I hope you don’t mind. BMA-Nation2020 (talk) 17:52, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Feature films section. edit

Hello, @Indagate:. My name is ZX2006XZ. There has been some problems with the feature films section of this article. One major problem is the split between "theatrical" and "direct-to-video" films. I don't see why Joseph: King of Dreams, the direct-to-video film in question, should have a separate section of its own when it is DreamWorks' only direct-to-video film, and Trolls World Tour was released on video-on-demand due to COVID-19. Additionally, The Boss Baby: Family Business got a simultaneous theatrical/Peacock release.

The other big issue is how the animation services for DreamWorks' films are in the Distribution/Co-production with section. It doesn't make sense, because it would make it as of Jellyfish Pictures was a co-production company on Spirit Untamed, Family Business, and The Bad Guys when Jellyfish Pictures only provided the animation.

Also, I don't understand how the numbers are unnecessary.

So, I decided to reinstate the animation services section and put Joseph: King of Dreams where the rest of the movies are. Additionally, I am adding an "also production company" note to Pacific Data Images as they co-produced Antz, the Shrek and Madagascar movies, among others.

ZX2006XZ (talk) 13:55, 17 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for starting discussion, but please do not restore a bold edit while discussion is in progress, the status quo should remain while consensus is formed against it.
"Direct-to-video" vs. theatrical is an important distinction in film in terms of notability, your other examples also released theatrically.
I see numbers as unnecessary because the films are not connected, they're listed in release order by default so labelling their number of release is useless information. How are they necessary?
You've not mentioned why remove scope="row", they're for MOS:DTAB
Note next to Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was broken.
Thanks, Indagate (talk) 19:49, 17 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

I can see where you are coming from when it comes to the numbers. However, Joseph: King of Dreams is DreamWorks'only direct-to-video film to date. It's not like DreamWorks has more direct-to-video films. Also, I am going to fix the note for Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Additionally, the animation services section is gone, so I'm re-adding that. ZX2006XZ (talk) 21:31, 17 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please stop restoring your bold edit, use this talk page to generate consensus for your bold edit before restoring it. You've not mentioned why remove scope="row", they're for MOS:DTAB. Thanks, Indagate (talk) 21:41, 17 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Okay. So what if we remove the numbers, but keep the scope="row" and the animation services section, and also discard the direct-to-video section? ZX2006XZ (talk) 21:44, 17 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn’t the Trollhunters movie also be on this list? 198.200.115.29 (talk) 01:46, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Why is Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans not in the list? 198.200.115.29 (talk) 21:49, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Orion and the Dark is said to be produced by Peter McCown while Walt Dohrn and Bonnie Arnold are executive producing the film.[1] 64.56.17.172 (talk) 05:13, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

But this is a relatable source: https://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film/orion-and-the-dark-dreamworks-netflix-charlie-kaufman-229594.html It may look the same but confirms who's producing it. Peter McCown is confirmed to be the producer of the film.

Ruby Gillman Reception Info edit

Since Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken has been out for a while, we should add its box office and critical response info into the Reception section of the article. Red4Smash (talk) 16:08, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Is the Shrek spin-off focusing on Donkey still happening? edit

I don't see the planned Shrek spin-off focusing on Donkey being visable in the section of "Films in development." Is the spin-off still happening, was it just a rumor or was it just a misunderstanding and that no such spin-off is in development? JMATIUAS (talk) 17:46, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_DreamWorks_Animation_productions&diff=prev&oldid=1195413812 Needs to be reverted from ZX2006XZ. He must not put the direct-to-videos on the list because they don’t count. A direct-to-video section is needed for Orion and the Dark. If he keeps this up he will cause an edit war on other users. Please accept this edit request as a reason we don’t want his actions effecting this page. He does not need to be like the List of Sony Pictures Animation productions. 107.77.197.112 (talk) 18:20, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{Edit semi-protected}} template. In a case like this IP, it is best to start a discussion here, providing an explanation of your rationale for why the two movie types should be separate on this article, and then allow the community to engage. -- Pinchme123 (talk) 16:37, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

And he keeps deleting Madagascar 4 off the list of upcoming movies in development. Tom McGrath did say it was in the works April 2017. Sure, we haven't heard anything yet, but that's no reason to delete it. He keeps doing it again and doesn't know when to stop. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ggianoli (talkcontribs) 02:19, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Animation services section edit

Now that Dog Man has been dated for 2025, I say that it's time to restore the animation services section, especially since Orion and the Dark is coming out Friday. The animation services have no reason to be in the same column as the distributors. ZX2006XZ (talk) 00:04, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Update: I just added an animation services section to the upcoming section. Now it's time for released section to get the makeover it deserves. ZX2006XZ (talk) 00:37, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
